  • 1. On Thursday night in theweek of the death of Jesus, He ate Passover Supper with His disciples. After supper, He washed their feet to teach them humility. www.rossvillechurch.com April 1, 2012 781 Salem Road, Rossville, GA 30741 1
  • 2. Matthew 26 30 And whenthey had sung an hymn,they went out into themount of Olives. After Jesus had prayed, Judas betrayed Him with a kiss. Jesus was arrested and taken to Caiaphas the High Priest. 2
  • 3. Peter drew his sword and cut off the ear of one of the soldiers.Jesus put his ear back onhis head and healed him. 3
  • 4. Jesus was mocked, andgiven a mockery of a trial. From Caiaphas to Pilate. From Pilate to Herod 4
  • 5. Two disciples have major roles on Thursday night. Peter denied knowing Jesus, even as Jesus was being mocked and beaten. Judas returned the blood money he had received. 5
  • 6. Peter went out and wept bitter tears of sorrow and repentance.Judas went out and hanged himself. One man truly repented.He became a pillar in the church. That man is in Heaven. 6
  • 7. It is now early Friday morning.Matthew 27 11 And Jesus stood before the governor(Roman governor -Pilate): and the governor askedHim, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? AndJesus said unto him, Thou sayest. 12 And when Hewas accused of the chief priests and elders, Heanswered nothing. 13 Then said Pilate unto Him,Hearest Thou not how many things they witnessagainst thee? 14 And He answered him to never aword; insomuch that the governor marveledgreatly. 7

Pilate offered to release one man, and the crowd demanded Barabbas, a murderer.Matt 27:24 WhenPilate saw that he could prevailnothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he tookwater, and washed his hands before the multitude,saying, I am innocent of the Blood of this JustPerson: see ye to it. 25 Then answered all thepeople, and said, His Blood be on us, and on ourchildren. 8
  • 9. Scarlet robe and a Scourged crown of thornsMatt 27:29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, theyput it upon His head, and a reed in His right hand: and theybowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail,King of the Jews! 9
  • 10. 30 And they spit upon Him, andtook the reed, and smote Himon the head. 31 And after thatthey had mocked Him, theytook the robe off from Him, andput His Own raiment on Him,and led Him away to crucifyHim. 32 And as they came out,they found a man of Cyrene,Simon by name: him theycompelled to bear His cross. 10
  • 11. Matt 27: 39 And they that passedby reviled Him, waggingtheir heads, 40 And saying,Thou that destroyest thetemple, and buildest it inthree days, save Thyself. IfThou be the Son of God,come down from the cross. 11
  • 12. 45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness overall the land unto the ninth hour. 46 And about theninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying,Eli, Eli, lama Sabachthani? that is to say, My God,My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me? 47 Some ofthem that stood there, when they heard that, said,This man calleth for Elias. 12
  • 13. 50 Jesus, when He hadcried again with a loudvoice, yielded up theghost. 51 And, behold,the veil of the templewas rent in twain fromthe top to the bottom;and the earth did quake, Jesus is the Way to God;and the rocks rent; We no longer have to go to a priest for forgiveness. 13
  • 14. Hebrews 10 19-23 Having therefore, brethren,boldness to enter into the holiest by the Blood ofJesus, by a new and living way, which He hathconsecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say,His flesh; And having an high priest (Jesus) overthe house of God; Let us draw near with a trueheart in full assurance of faith, having our heartssprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodieswashed with pure water. Let us hold fast theprofession of our faith without wavering; (for Heis faithful that promised;) 14
  • 15. 52-53 And the graves were opened; and many bodiesof the saints which slept arose, and came out of thegraves after His resurrection, and went into theholy city, and appeared unto many.54 Now when the centurion, and they that were withhim, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and thosethings that were done, they feared greatly, saying,Truly this was the Son of God. 15
  • 16. 55-56 Andmany women were there beholding afaroff, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministeringunto Him: Among which was Mary Magdalene,and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and themother of Zebedees children.57 When the even was come, there came a rich manof Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himselfwas Jesus disciple: 16
  • 17. 58 He went to Pilate, andbegged the body of Jesus.Then Pilate commanded thebody to be delivered.59 And when Joseph had takenthe body, he wrapped it in aclean linen cloth, 60 And laid itin his own new tomb, whichhe had hewn out in the rock:and he rolled a great stone tothe door of the sepulchre, anddeparted. 17
  • 18. 61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the otherMary, sitting over against the sepulchre. 62 Now thenext day (Saturday), that followed the day of thepreparation, the chief priests and Pharisees cametogether unto Pilate, 63 Saying, Sir, we rememberthat that deceiver said, while He was yet alive,After three days I will rise again. … 65 Pilate saidunto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make itas sure as ye can. 66 So they went, and made thesepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting awatch. 18
  • 19. If this was the end of the story, we would not call it "Good Friday". Next Sunday we will study "The rest of the Story." What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the Blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the Blood of Jesus. O precious is the flow, that makes me white as snow, No other fount I know; nothing but the Blood of Jesus. 19
