  4. 4. Three nights -- Wednesday, Thursday, Friday August 8, 9, 10 Evangelist Doyle Ratterlee 4
  5. 5. David killed Goliath and brought his head to Saul. When Samuel anointed David,he was just a boy. 15 years later when he assumed the throne, David was a seasoned leader. 5
  6. 6. 1 Samuel 18 1 And it came to pass, when he hadmade an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul ofJonathan was knit with the soul of David, andJonathan loved him as his own soul. Kindred spirits Both trusted God, and were quick to the battle. The Holy Spirit united them in an unbreakable friendship. 6
  7. 7. God is giving David a friend and brother to be with him in time of adversity.God knows what is coming, and is preparing David to come through it victoriously.Pay attention to the people and other blessings that God puts in your life.Be grateful and take good care of the relationship. You may be fixing to need them. 7
  8. 8. 2 AndSaul took him that day, and would let him gono more home to his fathers house. If allowed, David would have returned to his fathers home and served him as a shepherd. David was willing and glad to wait on God to bring about His Will for the throne. How many people would have been trying to make it happen, and right now!!! 8
  9. 9. We cant make good things happen; We cant force the Will of God to come to pass.Allow the Hand of God to work in you and through you. God is setting up the future that He has for you. 9
  10. 10. 3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. 4 AndJonathan stripped himself of the robe that was uponhim, and gave it to David, and his garments, evento his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle. So close did this friendship become that Jonathan, though heir apparent to the throne of Israel, stripped himself of his own royal regalia andplaced it on David in recognition of David’s divineelection to be king. The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures by Dallas Seminary Faculty. 10
  11. 11. 5 And David went out whithersoever Saul senthim, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set himover the men of war, and he was accepted in thesight of all the people, and also in the sight ofSauls servants.David was an humble and obedient servant to Saul. He behaved himself wisely -- He was filled with Gods Holy Spirit. 11
  12. 12. We are commanded to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 5:18 When we walk in His anointing, power, wisdom, and understanding, We will behave ourselves wisely and well.We will accomplish the Will of God for us. 12
  13. 13. 6 And it came to pass as they came, when Davidwas returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, withtabrets, with joy, and with instruments of music. The women came out to meet King Saul with his victorious army. They were singing and dancing, Playing tambourines, and other instruments, And filled with joy. 13
  14. 14. 7 And the women answered one another as theyplayed, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, andDavid his ten thousands. 8 And Saul was verywroth (mad), and the saying displeased him; and hesaid, They have ascribed unto David tenthousands, and to me they have ascribed butthousands: and what can he have more but thekingdom? Are his besetting sins, and cause the others. 14
  15. 15. 9 And Saul eyed (jealous eye)David from that day andforward. 10 And it came to passon the morrow, that the evilspirit from God came uponSaul, and he prophesied in themidst of the house: and Davidplayed with his hand, as at Imagine theother times: and there was a speech Saul madejavelin in Sauls hand. under the demons power. 15
  16. 16. 11 And Saul cast the javelin;for he said, I will smiteDavid even to the wall withit. And David avoided out ofhis presence twice.Compare David, with his harp in his hand, aimingto serve Saul, and Saul, with his javelin in his hand, aiming to slay David; Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary 16
  17. 17. 12 And Saul was afraid ofDavid, because the Lordwas with him, and wasdeparted from Saul. Without Gods Comforting Presence, All men live in fear, and confusion, and violence. 17
  18. 18. James 4 5 Do ye think that the Scripture saith invain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?6 But He giveth more grace. Wherefore He saith,God resisteth (opposes) the proud, but giveth graceunto the humble.7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist thedevil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh toGod, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse yourhands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye doubleminded. 18
  19. 19. 5b The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy I believe this is speaking of the spirit of man. It is the human condition to envy others -- To want more than we have,To imagine that others have a better life than we. 19
  20. 20. Green-eyedwith envy Envy takes many forms. 20
  21. 21. 6a But He giveth more grace. As we submit ourselves to God and resist the devil, we can be delivered from our human nature. We can be more like Jonathan and David; We dont have to be like Saul. 21
