1. The Everyday Life Reader Ben HIGHMORE Part 5 Chapter 35 Daniel MILLER Making Love in Supermarkets (pg 339-345 )

4. “ She sees her role as selecting goods which are intended to be educative, uplifting and in a rather vague sense morally superior.” “ She prevents the embrassment and disdain…” “ In short , her shopping is primarily an act of love, that in its daily conscientiousness becomes one of the primary means by which relationships of love and care are constituted by practice. That is to say, shopping does not merely reflect love, but is a major form in which this love is manifested and reproduced.”
5. “ Love as a practice is quite compatible with feelings of obligation and responsibility.”
6. ***Mrs. Wynn is a housewife and she views her family’s requests without resentment. But this should be appreciated by them. “ In general, the problem many housewives expressed was the lack of valorization, most particularly moral, educative and provisioning roles that housewives see as of immense importance ”
7. “ By the same token these previous studies provide the bulk evidence for the centrality of love and care as the ideology behind the mundane domestic activities such as shopping, to which this case study becomes merely an additional exemplification.” “ Not every shopping practice is about love, there are others that relate more to selfishness, hedonism, tradition and a range other factors. What I will claim, however, is that love is not only normative but easily dominant as the context and motivation for the bulk of actual shopping practice.”
8. ***Miller theory rests heavily from what he calls making love in he supermarkets.Through his investigation he observes housewives (as his subjects were predominantly female members of a traditional nuclear family) that often exert great energy to please their family or convert their tastes to one believed to be more healty or beneficial. With this Miller sees a dominant other-centeredness, over a perhaps more expected self-centeredness, that may only be explained by a broad sense of love “it is love that can satisfactorily legitimate their devotion to this work ”
9. RASYONEL SATIN ALMA VE BOŞ ZAMAN SÜRECİNE AİT ALIŞVERİŞ EYLEMLERİNİN BİRLİKTE SERGİLENDİKLERİ MEKÂNLAR: ALIŞVERİŞ MERKEZLERİ Shopping Centres: The Space of Rational Purchasing and Leisure Exhibitions Burcu ÖZCAN ÖZET : Makale tüketici imajları, tüketim, alışveriş ve boş zaman hakkındadır.
“… Çalışmada açıklamak istediğimiz, geç kapitalist tüketim toplumunun perakende kurumları olan alışveriş merkezlerinin, sadece bir şeyler satın alan, akılcı, ihtiyaçlarıyla sınırlı alışverişe yönelen rasyonel tüketicilere yönelik hizmet vermedikleri, aynı zamanda boş zaman geçirmek, vitrinleri seyretmek ve mekân içerisinde gezinmek isteyen boş zaman tüketicilerine yönelik de hizmetler verdikleridir...” “…
11. Ciddiyet Oyun hali Rasyonaliteye yönelik vurgu Deneyime yönelik vurgu Diğer şeyler arasında yer alan gündelik yaşamın rutini Gündelik yaşamın rutinleri dışında Zorunluluk Haz Mümkün olduğu kaldığı etkinlik Etkinlik önemsiz İhtiyaçların gerçekçi olarak doyurulması Rüyasal ve yarı hayali hedonizm Planlama Uyarılmışlık Sürekli olarak satın almayı belirtir Satın almayı zorunlu olarak belirtmez Bir araç Kendi başına bir amaç Zamanın kıtlığı Kendi başına bir amaç olarak zaman harcanması Zorunlu, Bir İhtiyaç Karşılama Eylemi Olarak Alışveriş Haz Sağlayan, Soysal Bir Biçim Olarak Alışveriş
13. The Everyday Life Reader Ben HIGHMORE Part 5 Chapter 36 Steven CONNER Rough Magic : Bags ( pg 346-351)
14. “ Rough Magic , exemplifies an approach to material culture based on the fairly modest project of ‘ thinking through things rather than thinking them through ’” “ The term that Conner uses to describe his approach to the material worls is ‘ cultural phenomenology’ and it is qualification of ‘phenomenology’ by the term ‘cultural’ that suggests its pertinence for approaching the everyday.”
15. Rough magic things ==== BAGS - WIRES – SCREENS – SWEETS “… magical objects are things that we allow and expect to do things back to us…” “ These objects have the powers to arouse, absorb, stabilise, seduce, disturb, soothe, succour and dru. They have a life of their own: a life we give them, and give back to ourselves through them, thereby giving rise anew to ourselves.”
16.
17. “ Both bearing and carrying conjoin in the same way the meanings of holding up ans holding out” “ Lives are full of bags. Bags are full of lives” ***Large bags & inside small bags, like anatomical dolls
18. “ How we carry bags is important.” “ Bags are a way of keeping and displaying connections between our fronts and other parts of us, less visible, more vulnerable.” “ Bag are antique and aging things.” “ We carry more and more bags about our persons, which themselves become more and more baglike, as we age.”
