      • What is culture? (11-11:10)
      • Your cultural diversity (11:10-11:30)
      • Iceberg (11:30-12:15)
        • Define iceberg
        • Aspects of culture
        • Lessons from iceberg
    3. Our definitions of culture
      • Add slide from day one of their description of culture
    4. Culture
      • Values, beliefs, attitudes, preferences, customs, learning styles, communication styles, history/historical interpretations, achievements/accomplishments, technology, the arts, literature, etc. - the sum total of what a particular group of people has created together, share and transmit. (Paige, 2006)
    5. What is your cultural diversity? You
    6. Discuss with a partner . . .
      • Which is the most defining circle? Why?
      • Was 8 circles too many? Too few?
      • Is there an identity others don’t recognize in you? Is this ok?
    7. Adding Values
      • Add values that you attribute to the circles.
        • Ex. - student > independence, respect for knowledge, question authority
    8. Culture Collage
      • Using these 8 descriptions and values you just discovered and more if you’d like, make a collage that describes yourself and your culture.
      • In addition to the collage, write a short description of why you identify yourself in this way.

      • Add picture of iceberg
    10. Lessons from the Iceberg
      • There is almost always a deeper meaning to what we observe
      • What we think we see isn’t necessarily what’s happening
      • We interpret what we see in the host culture as we would in our own

    14. Homework
      • Read pp. 52-56 in SA book
