  • 1. Geometric Shapes Learning Center Deborah ThonusThis PowerPoint is designed to be used as a learning center. Students willsee video clips of different shapes found in the world around them. Theywill also see how shapes are combined and subdivided. There are 2opportunities for informal assessment. This PowerPoint learning centeralso contains instructions for follow-up projects so students may performtheir understanding in new problems and in tangible ways. To providemultiple entry points to the content, students will have choices with avariety of products and the video clips they watch.
  • 2. Geometric Shapes Learning Center InstructionsWelcome to the Geometric Shapes Learning Center!Directions: Read steps 1 through 6 below, then do the steps in order.1. Go to Menu slide and watch the 3 Introduction video links highlighted in red. Take notes and/or draw illustrations in your geometry journal. Click here for the Menu.2. Watch at least 2 more video clips from the Menu marked in green. Click here for the Menu.3. Check your geometric shape knowledge by taking a quiz, links highlighted in blue. Take the What Am I? quiz or you may also visit the The Whaddaya Know Quiz Show link to play an interactive game from Discovery.4. Choose your project from the Project List, highlighted in purple.5. You will have one week to complete your project. Check with me before you begin to make sure you understand your task. You may use your math book and glossary for your project.6.   • 48. Shape PoetryChoose a shape and write a poem about your shape. You must include words from the definition of your shape. Use the Glossary in your math book for the definition. Some ideas for your poem:• Draw the shape’s outline a write your words around the outside of the shape.• Use the definition to write a free verse, 5 senses, or 5 W’s poem. (See examples on our bulletin board.)• Comparison Poem- Compare your shape to things around in our world using similes.• Haiku• Acrostic - Spell your shape’s name going down the side.(See examples on our bulletin board.)
