History & Creation <ul><li>During our nation's infancy, little concern for controlling our borders. </li></ul><ul><li>1885 Congress started passing laws limiting immigration. </li></ul><ul><li>laws prompted migrants to attempt illegal entry, </li></ul><ul><li>1904, the U.S. Immigration Service assigned inspectors to patrol border, prevent illegal crossings. </li></ul>
    4. 4. 1 st Border Patrolman <ul><li>Jeff Milton, a Texas Ranger </li></ul><ul><li>&quot;the best six-shooter in the country&quot; </li></ul><ul><li>In 1904, he joined the Immigration Service, &quot;Mounted Chinese Inspector&quot; </li></ul>

History & Creation <ul><li>March 1915, Congress authorized called mounted guards or mounted inspectors </li></ul><ul><li>Operated from El Paso, Tex. </li></ul><ul><li>Never more than 75 </li></ul><ul><li>Rode on horseback, patrolled as far west as California </li></ul><ul><li>Focus-Chinese immigrants, trying to avoid the Chinese exclusion laws. </li></ul>
