Monroe Doctrine <ul><li>Feared other European countries would try to start new colonies in the Americans </li></ul><ul><li>Gives a speech to Congress called the Monroe Doctrine </li></ul><ul><li>U.S. would not allow European countries to start new colonies </li></ul><ul><li>Even if it means war </li></ul><ul><li>In return U.S. would stay out of Europe </li></ul>
