  • Hi my name is Max and I’m on theMoSSaiC team
  • 5% of the world population is exposed to landslides every year (300M)1500 people die on average p/y
  • High slope Limited drainage Potentially high Pop. Density300” p/y (Caribbean)
  • Our tool is a web-based means of doing this.
  • The steps are complex but implemented simply (linear).
  • Landslide Susceptibility: How prone a slope is to landslide (relative value compared to other slope zones in a country)Landslide Hazard: Probability of a certain type of landslide happening in a specific location (fixed value based on location)Exposure to Landslide: Relationship between landslide location and elements at risk (e.g. houses, people, roads, utilities, etc)Vulnerability to Landslide: Level of damage expected for a particular landslide event to the elements at risk ([0-1] scale)
  • Anna Rodriguez, Civil. Engineer based in St. Lucia.Reviewed tool. Great feedback that was positive.“Gives a tool to people to collect data who couldn’t previously collect it.”“Makes it comprehensive for people who are non-experts.”
  • Development: near complete.World Bank is interested in piloting it in February 2011.Impact in a number of months.
