  • 3. Baghdad
    • Baghdad is the capital of Iraq and the center of air, road, and rail transport in the country.
    • As the leading manufacturing city of Iraq, The city has numerous oil refineries, food-processing plants, tanneries, and textile mills.
    • The city extends along both banks of the Tigris.
  • 4. Mosul
    • The city of Mosul is predominantly Kurdish but has a substantial non-Kurdish minority.
    • This minority consists of Iraqis sympathetic to the Saddam Hussein regime.
    • Below is a picture of Mosul’s location of Iraq’s Army headquarters
  • 5. Kirkuk
    • Kirkuk is located in northern Iraq, about 250 kilometers north of the capital of Baghdad near the foot of the Zagros Mountains.
    • The city is built by the Hasa river on an area with archaeological remains over 5000 years old.
  • 6. Dahuk
    • Saddam Hussein's summer palace is near Dahuk.
    • Most of its land is mountainous; it is famous for a rainy and snowy winter and hot summer.
  • 7. Tikrit
    • Tikrit is 100 miles northwest of Baghdad on the Tigris.
    • Iraqi Army of 40,000 require basing facilities at 18 locations. Military Bases will be built Tikrit.
  • 8. Daquq
    • Daquq is located south of Kirkuk.
    • Iraqi Soldiers meet in Daquq and conduct raids and plain attacks.
  • 9. Basrah
    • Population=1.3 million people
    • Basra is the third largest city in Iraq.
    • Basra was home to significant Iraqi nationalist opposition to Ottoman rule.
  • 10. Kut
    • Is in southern Iraq, on the banks of the river Tigris.
    • It is a port and a market center for grains, fruits, and vegetables.
