  • 2. TRUSCREEN
  • 3.
    • Light at specific frequencies is transmitted through cervical tissue for identifying changes in the basal and stromal layers. This includes increases in blood circulation and variations in blood vessels that occur with pre-cancerous change.
    PRINCIPLE
  • 4.
    • The system also assesses the electrical properties and response of the tissue.
    • The electrical measurements are stimulated by the delivery of a very small impulse (about one volt) in millisecond pulse sequences that repeat 14 times per second.
    • The decay response curve will vary according to the capacitance of the tissue - a measurement of the ability of the tissue to either hold or dissipate a charge
    ANALYSIS
  • 5.
    • The console has a microcomputer to calculate these tissue differences, and the results are compared with an integrated database of 2,000 patients from wide geographic and ethnic backgrounds with differing histological diagnoses.
    • A sophisticated algorithm framework has been developed to distinguish between normal and abnormal (cancerous and precancerous) tissue.
  • 6.
    • In a multi centre study, TruScreen was shown to detect precursors of cervical cancer (CIN 1-3) at an equivalent sensitivity to a standard Pap smear.
    CLINICAL PERFORMANCE
  • 7.
    • Objective
    • Devoid of human error in interpretation
    • Comparable sensitivity and specificity
    • Immediate report
    • Uniformity
    ADVANTAGES
  • 8.
    • It uses a handpiece with optical sensors that emit a number of discrete wavelengths in the visible infrared regions of the spectrum as well as an electrical biosensor to stimulate cervical tissue
    • Up to 24 sites are sampled during the examination
    TECHNIQUE
  • 9. Optical test plug Optical handpiece loaded with SUS (Single Use Sensor ) READY FOR THE TEST

  • 13.
  • 14.
    • The device then analyses back scattered light, direct reflectance and electrical response curves of the tissue and these are compared with existing database of demographically matched tissue signatures
    • Results are available instantly
    RESULTS
  • 15.
    • Truscreen is used in conjunction with Pap test to improve accuracy
    • More trials required
