  • The genre I have chosen is horror and the task I wish to do is video-based production and a 2 minute trailer. I came up with my text idea by looking at other Intertexts. I looked at the orphan and paranormal activity. From this I came up with my idea of a normal couple due to the idea from the orphan being about a normal family at the beginning. This is the idea of my film beginning with an equilibrium. I came up with an idea of the reasons behind the weird behaviour from the lead female being because of the paranormal due to films like paranormal activity. Combining these ideas gives me a very unique new film.
  • My narrative for my trailer is a typical engaged couple have recently moved into a new house for a fresh, new start. Olivia the main female character begins to start snapping and not being herself. Every time she does this there tends to be a flashback of something that has happened in the past or of another girl. This leaves the audience is suspense and trying to work out what is causing her strange behaviour. Along with Olivia’s strange behaviour, weird things begin to happen in the house, doors slamming, taps turning on, curtains moving etc. This starts to reveal it may be the paranormal causing this and the disequilibrium is introduced. Olivia and Callum then become scared to live in their house and never know when to expect Olivia to flip. It in the end is revealed that the strange behaviour of Olivia is due to a ghost possessing her to try to get her message across to Callum. She is possessed by a ghost who is a young woman that was Callum’s ex-girlfriend that died from a sudden car crash. She has a message which she didn’t have chance to say but wants to share.
  • My target audience profile is males and females in the age range of 15-20 who are mainly students that may have part-time jobs. There income is low and they can afford to go to the cinema. The demographics are E, the working class and the psychographics are mainstreamers, trendies, groupies, egoists, drifters and innovators.
  • I have decided on the main female lead, Olivia. A student who has previously studied drama and fits the pretty picture of how I think the character should look. Christina is a character who could be conventional of horror films with a normal, attractive woman who the audience wouldn’t think could turn mad.
  • I have selected a normal, large house which would be conventional of a horror like mine, due to the equilibrium to begin! The kitchen and living room are the main rooms in a house so therefore some key scenes happen here.
  • The Bathroom is used because there are taps which can turn on etc. These can show scary things happening in the house. The lane is used for a scene where Olivia runs away to try to get away from her strange behaviour she can’t control. I used the lane because it has trees and is windy which makes it look scary.
  • I have prepared an OSG to use in my trailer. This will be right near the beginning of the trailer. It warns the audience that its not going to be as normal as it first seems.

      • My USPs:
      • The use of normal characters makes the audience think everything is normal and nothing bad will happen – unexpected
      • The reason why Olivia goes mad is unexpected and different, more original and exciting than her just going mad without reasoning.
      • The target audience for the film will enjoy the film because its original, exciting and
    • 12. Summary
      • How will my text compete with its intertexts?
      • The text is unique compared with other intertexts because it is not just about a mad woman. There is more to guess and work out behind it. This makes it thoughtful which also makes it stand out from its intertexts.
      • Mixing horror with the paranormal is effective because it makes it unique.
