Organizations start the path to cloud, but with multiple approaches you can easily go down the wrong path. The keys to cloud success are understanding how it changes process, people and technology. In these slides, which CA Technologies VP of Product Marketing Andi Mann presented at Gartner ITxpo, take you through a self assessment to determine where you are today and the right next steps for the future.

  • Cloud computing can sound pretty exotic, but if you break it down it really isn’t. Although cloud computing is incredibly powerful and transformational, it’s really a natural evolution of many of the disciplines and initiatives that we’ve been helping our customers with for years, and with solutions that lead the market. A lot of the paths you are on already lead to cloud computing. What’s needed is to bring them together in the right way. This requires integrating tools and technology across platforms, using services as a common context, which is exactly what CA is doing.

Oct 20, 2010

Image not for distribution

Capabilities are available over the network and accessed through standard mechanisms that promote use by heterogeneous thin or thick client platforms (e.g., mobile phones, laptops, and PDAs).
    7. 7. NIST criteria 2: on-demand self-service

Image not for distribution

Test Your Cloud Maturity Level: A Practical Guide to Self Assessment. Copyright © 2010 CA. Oct 20, 2010 A consumer can unilaterally provision computing capabilities, such as server time and network storage, as needed automatically without requiring human interaction with each service’s provider.
    8. 8. NIST criteria 3: resource pooling

Image not for distribution

Test Your Cloud Maturity Level: A Practical Guide to Self Assessment. Copyright © 2010 CA. All rights reserved. Oct 20, 2010 Computing resources are pooled using multi-tenancy, with physical & virtual resources assigned & reassigned on demand. There is a sense of location independence; the customer has no control or knowledge over the exact location of the provided resources
    9. 9. NIST criteria 4: rapid elasticity

Image not for distribution

Test Your Cloud Maturity Level: A Practical Guide to Self Assessment. Copyright © 2010 CA. Oct 20, 2010

Image not for distribution

Capabilities can be rapidly & elastically provisioned, in some cases automatically, to quickly scale out and rapidly released to quickly scale in. To consumers, capabilities appear to be unlimited & can be purchased in any qty., at any time
