  • 13. Orwellian Metaphor<br />George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four.<br />Orwell depicted a harrowing totalitarian society, that watches its citizens obsessively and demands strict discipline.<br />The focus is on the harms, inhibition and control.<br />

Kafkaesque Metaphor <br />Franz Kafka's The Trial. <br /> Centers around a man who is arrested but not informed why and is unable to learn much more. <br />The focus is on the harms, a bureaucracy that uses people and makes important decisions about them, yet denies the people the ability to participate. <br />

Literary Metaphor<br />George Orwell~1984<br />Obsessively demands strict discipline<br />Harms as inhibition and social control<br />Franz Kafka ~ The Trial<br />Suffocating powerlessness & vulnerability created by the system<br />Harms are bureaucratic ones—indifference, error, abuse, frustration, & lack of transparency & accountability <br />
