  2. 2. CLASS SCHEDULE <ul><li>This class will begin on the July 12, 2010 and will continue for 12 weeks. You must log on each week and complete the assignments by Friday of the week of the class. </li></ul>
  3. 3. GRADING FOR COURSE <ul><li>30% for completing all assignments </li></ul><ul><li>40% for tests </li></ul><ul><li>30% for final exam. </li></ul>

  5. 5. WHAT IS AN ENROLLED AGENT? <ul><li>An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a federally-authorized tax practitioner who has technical expertise in the field of taxation </li></ul><ul><li>Only Enrolled Agents, attorneys, and CPAs may represent taxpayers before the IRS.  </li></ul>

WHAT IS AN ENROLLED AGENT? <ul><li>Enrolled Agents are required to complete 72 hours of continuing professional education, reported every three years, to maintain their Enrolled Agent status.  </li></ul><ul><li>Enrolled Agents are required to abide by the provisions of the Department of Treasury’s Circular 230, </li></ul>
  7. 7. ENROLLED AGENT EXAM <ul><li>An Enrolled Agent must pass a three part special exam. </li></ul><ul><li>An Enrolled Agent must pass a background check. </li></ul><ul><li>Enrolled Agent must complete continuing education to keep the license. </li></ul>
  8. 8. ENROLLED AGENT EXAM <ul><li>Exams will be offered May 1, 2010 through February 28, 2011. There is no testing in March or April.  . </li></ul><ul><li>You may schedule each part of the exam at your convenience, in any order. You are not required to take all parts in one sitting.  Exam fees are $97 per part. </li></ul>
  9. 9. ENROLLED AGENT EXAM <ul><li>The computerized test is provided through Prometric. You can take each part of the examination at your convenience. </li></ul><ul><li>Complete details for registration is on the Prometric.com/irs website. </li></ul>

THE EA EXAM <ul><li>Each part of the exam contains 100 multiple choice questions and tests three separate areas </li></ul><ul><li>Part I tests individual areas of taxation </li></ul><ul><li>Part II tests business areas of taxation’ </li></ul><ul><li>Part III tests representation, practice and procedures, including ethics, recordkeeping procedures </li></ul>

ENROLLED AGENT EXAM <ul><li>If you do not pass a part of the exam after four attempts during the May 1 through February 28 test window you must wait until the next testing period before attempting the part again. </li></ul><ul><li>You have a two year window from the time you pass the first part to pass the other two parts of the exam. </li></ul>
