    2. Disciplinary Measures
      • Demerit
      • Detention
      • Corporal Punishment
      • At-Home Suspension
      • Referral To Board Discipline Committee
      • Expulsion
    3. Demerits
      • 1 demerit issued for each Minor Offense-Class 1.
      • When the 2 nd demerit is issued the student will receive one afternoon of detention.
      • With the 3 rd demerit, no test may be exempted.
      • With the 4 th demerit, the student will receive one afternoon of detention.
      • The 5 th demerit will require one day of at-home suspension and a parent conference.
      • A 6 th demerit will result in a 3 day suspension and appearance before the Board Discipline Committee.
      • Demerits are recorded in the counselor’s office.
    4. Detention
      • A student will receive one afternoon of detention when the second or fourth demerit is issued.
      • If the student has detention the parents will be contacted.
      • A student assigned to detention must report to the designated area on the date of detention at the end of the school day and must remain until 4 pm. The student must be signed out by a parent or guardian at 4 pm. Failure to comply will result in one additional day of detention. Any student who misses an assigned detention for an unexcused reason will serve one day at-home suspension the following day or immediately upon return to school.
    5. Corporal Punishment
      • Physical punishment may be administrated after other control measures have not proven effect.
      • The HM may delegate to a teacher the power to administer corporal punishment.
      • This punishment must be administered only in the presence of the HM or another teacher.
      • A maximum of 3 licks may be administered for an offense.
    6. At-Home Suspension
      • The student is required to remain at home under the supervision of the parents or guardians. Suspended students are not allowed to make up missed class work or test (s). He/she will receive a mark of 0 for any missed work. The student and parents or guardian will be required to meet with HM and/or the Board Discipline Committee.
    7. Referral to Board Discipline Committee
      • A student will be referred to the BDC (Board Discipline Committee) at the discretion of the HM when placed in At-Home Suspension.
      • Any time a student is referred to the BDC a complete discipline report will be submitted to the committee chair.
    8. Expulsion
      • A student who is expelled from Pickens Academy will not be allowed to return to the school until they have completed 1 Full Term at another school system at which time the parent or guardian may reapply for membership and enrollment for the child. Reinstatement rests with the Board of Trustees.
