    2. Data Movement Today
The options of how to get data from one point to another deserves a fresh look to see if the best bottom-line options are in use. Some of the solutions to constrained bandwidth appear reasonable enough...they include:
      adding compression
      separating and prioritizing traffic
adjusting protocol for larger data packet size, etc.
      adding parallel sessions of TCP/IP
      adding more bandwidth
Each of these help in their own way, but perhaps one of the main issues is the protocol itself.
Over today's high speed networks (especially given that TCP was designed for unreliable slow networks), where the reliability is typically very good, there must be an alternative.
    3. BitSpeed XLR8
What if there was an optimized IP protocol that was just as secure and reliable as TCP, but was tuned for high performance data transfers and was latency insensitive?
BitSpeed XLR8 provides the ability to select data that, through either distance and latency problems, or through inefficient use of protocols, and transmit it substantially faster.
    4. BitSpeed accelerates data
      Samples of high latency
      New York to L.A. – 70-100 ms
      International – 200 ms +
      Satellites – 600 ms
      BitSpeed can increase these (estimates)
      New York to L.A. – x 20
      International – x 25
      Satellites – x 50+
    5. Test Results
BitSpeed has run tests at various bandwidth (line speeds) and latencies. A sample comparison with common file protocols shows a 10-25 times acceleration of data over distance:
    6. BitSpeed XLR8 - features
Compression: toggled on and off depending on the compressibility and the effectiveness on transmission facilities
Configuration File: creation and use of multiple host configuration files at user-defined times. file revision is greatly simplified.
Source File Specification: allows the creation and use of different sets of source files and/or directories to be copied. This is useful to almost all users who have recurring requirements to move the same files and/or directories on a frequent basis.
    7. BitSpeed XLR8 - features
Force destination overwrite: directs the process to overwrite files and/or directories of the same name as those that already exist at the destination site. By default, if the destination file already exists, the copy of that file and/or directory will fail (be bypassed if part of a larger files definition).
Keep partially created destination files: allows for the restart of a copy function interrupted for any reason. The restart begins at precisely where the previous attempt failed. This is particularly useful for long jobs over great distance, where the time to recover from a failure is more critical.
Preserve source file details: the destination file has the exact same mode, ownership, access time and modification time as the source file. Particularly useful when the destination is a disaster recovery site because identifying the correct file revision is greatly simplified.
    8. BitSpeed XLR8 - features
Progress messages: displays current performance data and permits calculation (on a rolling basis) of the estimated time of transfer completion.
Extensive error checking to verify correct receipt of packets at the destination site. Assures that the data sent is the data received.
Automated Identity Checking: allows the copy process to automatically provide passwords and or site certificate identification to the secure (encrypted) process so that operator attention is not required.
Reports about performance and job completion.
Selectable Process Start Site: allows a third-party initiator to begin the copy process from either the source or destination site. This is useful for firewall conditions where the source site may allow incoming data but the destination site does not, or vice versa.
      Server requirements
      Linux or Solaris
      8 GB RAM
    9. Benefits
      Acceleration of existing data transfers
      Savings on bandwidth upgrades
Savings on hours that free up IT computing resources for other tasks
De-risk the time it takes to perform backups and/or add additional locations
Speed up recovery should that become necessary from off-site backup location
