    2. The Sugar Act 1754 - 1763
      3 cent tax on foreign refined sugar
      Banned rum and French wines
      The taxes were raised without consent of the colonists
      First instance where colonists wanted to say how much they could be taxed
    3. The Stamp Act 1765
      • This is the first direct tax on American colonists.
      • Every news paper, pamphlet and other public and legal document had to have a stamp on it.
      • The stamp was basically a British seal and cost money.
      • Sons of Liberty formed because of this act.
    4. Boston Massacre 1770
      Five American colonists shot
      African-American CrispusAttaks killed
      British says colonists had weapons
      This event deepened mistrust of British
    5. The Boston Tea Party 1773
      Sons of Liberty disquised as Mohawk Indians boarded British ships and dumped 342 crates of British tea into Boston Harber
    6. Declaration of Independence 1776
      Written by Thomas Jefferson
      Document declared independence from Britain
