    2. TRANSITION YEAR IN ITS PRESENT FORM IS CONTINUING AS NORMAL

      • CAO points increasing if schools do not continue with TY
      • Less teacher numbers

      • Promotes personal and social development

      • Better results in the Leaving Certificate

      • Positive approach to education
    4. WHAT IS TRANSITION YEAR
      • Between the Junior Certificate and the Leaving Certificate.
      • Supported by the Department of Education
      • Option of six years for all second-level students.
      • Programme varies from school to school.

      • To experience the nature and realities of working life.

      • To achieve a knowledge and understanding of job application and selection.
      • THE WORK PLACEMENT
      • Students are advised to begin their search for a placement as soon as possible as demand for places has increased greatly.
      • During the work experience students keep a diary of each days work.
      • They are monitored by teachers by telephone calls to the employers.

        • Initiative in finding a placement 10%
        • Full completion of diary 30%
        • Presentation of diary on due date 15%
        • Report from employer 30%
        • Oral presentation to class 15%

      • Plus an additional 13 week from one of the above
      • Venture project – 2 days and 1 night
