St. Patricks University HospitalSt Patricks University Hospital is Ireland’slargest, independent, not-for-profit mental healthservice.They look after people with a range of mentalhealth difficulties including:• addiction and dual diagnosis• depression• bipolar disorder• eating disorders• mood & anxiety disorders
Advocacy• St Patricks campaign for the protection ofthe rights and integrity of those sufferingfrom mental illness through this they havebecome active partner in the See Changenational anti-stigma campaign run by themental health support agency Shine.• St. Patricks are currently running their owncampaign called Walk In My Shoes to helpde-stigmatise people with mental healthdifficulties.
Our Week in St. PatricksOver the course of the week we:• Visited the wards.• Learned practical first aid skills.• Learned how to look after our own mentalhealth.• Discovered career prospects in mentalhealth.• Gained an insight into the day to dayworkings of the hospital.
Young People and Mental Health• 1 in 4 people in Ireland will experience amental health difficulty this year.• 75% of all mental health difficulties beginbefore the age of 24.• Suicide is the leading cause of death among18-25 males in Ireland• Between 45% and 65% of people who dieby suicide Have suffered fro a treatablemental illness.
Willow Grove• Willow Grove Adolescent Unit is a 14 beddedinpatient facility for young people aged between13 -17 years who are experiencing mental healthdifficulties.• The aim of the team at Willow Grove is to helpyoung people manage their thoughts, feelings orbehaviours so that they can cope better witheveryday difficulties.
