Is betting or speculating financial markets Biblical? - Presentation Transcript

    1. Introduction to the basics of financial markets – Part 2
Is betting or financial speculation Biblical?
    2. This power point presentation is without sound .
It is designed purposely to let your conscience minister to you.
      Enjoy it!
    3. All market participants - corporate banks, investment institutions or individuals are faced with the same problem of deciding where price is going.
    4. If your bet (speculation ) is correct
    5. You make profit from the market
    6. If you are wrong…………….
    7. You lose your bet/money
    8. Yes it is like betting. Most traders loses in the market at the initial stage; until they learn how to trade and bet in spirit and in the righteousness of God’s commands.
None sense! God has nothing to do with financial markets or betting!
Is betting not gambling? I am more confused, please explain.
      This is pure betting
      I am afraid, I can’t do this.
    9. Yes, we bet all the times whether we know it or not.
When you take decisions based on future expectations.
Or when you saved money with your bank with the hope that it will return profits.
Or with the hope that it will not be stolen or mismanage.
In all of the above cases, you are betting on the reputation of your bank/human wisdom in managing the bank concerned! This may fail without notice
    10. Anyone who has a saving account with a bank, or owns shares and bonds, or engages in any business activity is already a speculator or wager without knowing.
If you have a high interest bank account or managed a long-term savings plan, or contribute to pension funds, retirement funds, endowment funds, insurance scheme, most probably your money may already be used for market speculation.
Your money may form part of a larger fund which your bank or investment institution use for trading (speculate) the markets in order increase it for you.
    11. Most investment decisions are actually long-term gambling as they are out of tune with most Biblical principles.
No bank will give you 100% guarantee for safe keeping of your money.
In 2008, many people lost their savingsand other investments even though they were not directly involved in trading.
    12. Now, is betting or financial speculation Scriptural?
The answer is yes, if based on the knowledge and wisdom of God.
This knowledge and wisdom of God is revealed inside the Holy Bible.
      Jeremiah 17:5 , Acts 17:11; Isaiah 30:1
    13. Where do we find the knowledge of God for betting on financial markets?
You will find them every where in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation
Take Ecclesiastes for example. This book was written by king Solomon, the wisest man ever lived on earth.
Himself was not only a preacher and a servant of God, but he was a business man, an investor, a buyer of gold and silver, currencies, commodities, etc. There has never be any other king again on earth with so much knowledge and wisdom on how to buy and sell.
His kingdom’s stock exchange house just like Wall Street of today out performed those of other nations. Even kings and queens from other nations sorts after his knowledge on business matters. Ecclesiastes 2:8
“I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces.”
      Jeremiah 17:5 , Acts 17:11; Isaiah 30:1
    14. Where do we find the knowledge of God for betting on financial markets?
You will find them every where in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation
In Ecclesiastes , King Solomon revealed his heart and all the mistakes he made as a king, and as a businessman which should serve as warnings to people involve in any business including risky business like speculating the stock markets.
You can see why our second law of market speculation is taken directly from Ecclesiastes 3:1
      Jeremiah 17:5 , Acts 17:11; Isaiah 30:1
      Ecclesiastes 3:1
    15. Let’s look at few passages from the Book of Ecclesiastes
Boldly face the future . Ecclesiastes 11:4
But there are some things you can’t be sure of. You must take a chance. If a person waits for perfect weather, then he will never plant his seeds. And if a person is afraid that every cloud will bring rain, then he will never harvest his crops.
      Jeremiah 17:5 , Acts 17:11; Isaiah 30:1
      Ecclesiastes 3:1
    16. Let’s look at some passages from the Book of Ecclesiastes
      Every Job Has its Dangers
A person that moves large stones might be hurt by them. And a person that cuts tree is in danger the trees might fall on him. Ecclesiastes 10:9
There is a risk in any job - Whoso remove - Stones too heavy for them e.g. risky all your money in the market with the hope to make quick returns or who rashly attempts things too high and hard for them without learning by the rope might get hurt .
      Jeremiah 17:5 , Acts 17:11; Isaiah 30:1
      Ecclesiastes 3:1
    17. Why do we need to study the Word of God for betting on today’s financial markets?
There are several reasons: first to test whether what is written in the Bible is applicable to today’s markets.
“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11)
      Jeremiah 17:5 , Acts 17:11; Isaiah 30:1
    18. Why do we need to study the Word of God for betting on today’s financial markets?
There are so much to be learned from the wisdom of king Solomon as an investor for example, but most people including Christians rather preferred to bet on the knowledge of their brokers or banks with little or no knowledge of God.
We need people like the Bereans who searched the scriptures daily whether those things were so-whether the Christian interpretation which the apostle put upon the Old Testament Scriptures was the true one. Or in our case, to see whether the sayings of Solomon are true when applied to today’s market.
      Jeremiah 17:5 , Acts 17:11; Isaiah 30:1
    19. But more importantly so that you do not fall into the trap of the enemy
Thus said the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from the LORD. Jeremiah 17:5
Isaiah 2:22: Stop regarding man, whose breath of life is in his nostrils; For why should he be esteemed?
      Isaiah 30:1: "Woe to the rebellious children," declares the LORD, "Who execute a plan, but not Mine, And make an alliance, but not of My Spirit, In order to add sin to sin;
    20. But more importantly so that you do not fall into the trap of the enemy
When you take the Word of God out of your investment strategies, and leave it to your bankers or brokers alone, you’ve gone into alliance with the enemies without knowing it.
There is no investor with greater wisdom on market timing and risk management than king Solomon for example.
But most banks relies on human wisdoms and are more liable to fall into traps of Satan -
    21. But more importantly so that you do not fall into the trap of the enemy
