  • 3. What is the Review?

  • 5. What doesn’t work?
  • 6. Times Your Lit Will Save You 1. When you need to make a statement that is stronger than your academic level allows 2. When you need to establish your expertise in your field (after findings to tie your work into the work in your field) 3. When you don’t have data but you need to back up a claim you are making in an argument 4. When you are discussing seminal ideas tied back to those who developed them
  • 7. Times Your Lit Won’t Save You 1.When the counter argument has deeper data behind it (Data trumps lit) 2.When your argument is not well crafted (lit out of context is useless) 3.When you lit is old and newer studies have different opinions
  • 8. Styles of Use 1. you write what you need and then put a group citation at the end that lists all the various works which added up to those ideas 2. any one point for whom a particular author is known is cited in a way that makes that author clear (ie multiple works by that author etc)
  • 9. Creating Magic With Your Lit 1. Organize the thoughts within the work you read in a way that aids your comprehension. IE by importance, by topic, etc and keep those notes in your bibliographic software 2. Discuss the ideas with friends – keep track of which come up as you are talking naturally – review their main points, craft arguments using their ideas 3. Practice, practice practice
