IxDA's Future Digital Community - Presentation Transcript

    1. The new IxDA Digital Community Luke Wroblewski, IxDA IA Summit 2006 03-14-2006
    2. What we got today
      • [email_address]
        • 2600 global subscribers
          • Probably under 200 active contributors
        • Great discussion
        • Lots of knowledge embedded in the archives but no organization
        • Poor user experience
        • Not a lot of options for different types of user interactivity
      • Announcement List
        • 1200 subscribers
        • Low volume
        • Only single looking glass
        • Very difficult to enable larger group to have posting rights
      • Limited Regional Announcement Lists
        • See above
    3. More of our situation
      • More consumption of discussion list content than contribution
        • Difficult (& not necessary) to turn consumers into creators
        • How do we enable curators to help us improve our content and its consumption?
      • Many members overwhelmed by quantity of emails on list
        • Can we provide alternatives to email list (RSS, Web participation)?
      • IxDA Web site does not showcase the content or the vitality of our mailing list
        • The list is our biggest concentration of knowledge and people!
      • Survey indicates members love the list content
        • But it is not visible to our external audience
        • Great content is being lost in the list archives (in people’s inboxes, etc.)
