  • What comes into our mindswhen we think about God isthe most important thingabout us.A. W. Tozer
  • SO, AFTER THE FLOOD…
  • The Table of NationsGENESIS CH. 10
  • GENESIS 10-11 We are nearing the end of the 1st. section of our 2 part division of the book of Genesis (chapters 1-11). We are in the post-diluvian age of the world. After chapter 11 starts the second division (chapters 12-50), from the deluge to the call of Abram..
  • ADAM CLARKES COMMENTARY Eusebius and others state (from what authority we know not) that Noah was commanded of God to make a will and bequeath the whole of the earth to his three sons and their descendants in the following manner: To Shem, all the East; To Ham, all Africa; To Japheth, the Continent of Europe with its isles, and the northern parts of Asia.
  • CH. 10, THE TABLE OF NATIONS Gen 10:1 This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noahs sons, who themselves had sons after the flood. Toledoth “Had sons after the flood,” not b4/during.
  • TOLEDOT 1. Creation (1:1-2:3) 2. Tôledôt of the heavens and the earth (2:4-4:26) 3. Tôledôt of Adam (5:1-6:8) 4. Tôledôt of Noah (6:9-9:29) 5. Tôledôt of Shem, Ham, and Japheth (10:1-11:9) 6. Tôledôt of Shem (11:10-26) 7. Tôledôt of Terah (11:27-25:11) 8. Tôledôt of Ishmael (25:12-18) 9. Tôledôt of Isaac (25:19-35:29) 10. Tôledôt of Esau (36:1-8) 11. Tôledôt of Esau, father of the Edomites (36:9-37:1) 12. Tôledôt of Jacob (37:2-50:26)
  • THE PULPIT COMMENTARY The ethnological register. I. PROCLAIMS THE UNITY OF THE RACE. 1. It declares all the successive families of mankind to have sprung from a common stock. Diverse as they flow are in their geographical situations, ethnic relations, physical capabilities, national peculiarities, according to the doctrine of this genealogical table they all trace their origin to Noah and his sons.
  • ONE BLOOD Acts 17:24-27 "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned--
  • MAGOG Gen 10:2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech and Tiras. The Defenders Study Bible says “Magog can mean “the place of Gog,” possibly now Georgia in the former U.S.S.R.”, Published in 1995, by Dr. Henry Morris
  • GOD SAYS WE’RE FROM ADAM Isa 43:27 Your first father sinned; your spokesmen rebelled against me. NIV
  • HOW’D WE GET “RACES”? Genesis 10:5 From these the coastlands of the nations were separated into their lands, every one according to his language, according to their families, into their nations.
  • THE PULPIT COMMENTARY The division here exhibited is fourfold: (1) geographical, (2) dialectical, (3) tribal, and (4) national
  • GEN 10:8-9, NIMROD Gen 10:8-9 Cush was the father of Nimrod, who grew to be a mighty warrior on the earth. 9 He was a mighty hunter before the Lord…. LXX translates the Hebrew gibbor as; gi,gaj GI´GAS, Gi,gantej, the Giants, a savage race destroyed by the gods…
  • GEN 10:9, JAMIESON, FAUSSET, AND BROWN The adjunct "before the Lord" - literally, in the presence of Yahweh-has been variously interpreted. [The Septuagint adds Elohiym after Yahweh. By one class it is taken in a bad sense, as in the Septuagint [Enantion Kuriou], in the face, in spite of, against Yahweh. This also is the view of Josephus and the Jewish Targumists, who unite in regarding Nimrod as the originator of a systematic opposition to the true God. By another class it is believed to bear a good meaning….”
  • NIMROD Nimrod = "rebellion" or "the valiant" 1) the son of Cush, grandson of Ham, and great grandson of Noah; a mighty hunter, he established an empire in the area of Babylon and Assyria…. Geneva Bible Notes: Gen 10:8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a (1) mighty one in the earth. (1) Meaning, a cruel oppressor and tyrant.
  • WHO’S AN ARAB? Medes, Jordanians, Egyptians, Libya, Syria, Togarmah, Iran, Saudi Arabia? Chuck Missler, Genesis Notes, pg. 44-45 Ar·ab...a member of a Semitic people inha biting Arabia and other countries of the Middle East. 2.a member of any Arabic- speaking people. dictionary.reference.com
  • GEN 10:21 Gen 10:21 Sons were also born to Shem, whose older brother was Japheth; Shem was the ancestor of all the sons of Eber. Gen 9:24…Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done… Japheth was Shem’s older brother Shem Ham, his youngest son Doesn’t completely preclude triplets.
  • ALWAYS, SHEM, HAM AND JAPHETH Gen 5:32….Shem, Ham and Japheth Gen 6:10….Shem, Ham and Japheth Gen 7:13….Shem, Ham and Japheth Gen 9:18….Shem, Ham and Japheth Gen 10:1….Shem, Ham and Japheth 1 Chr 1:4…Shem, Ham and Japheth Why Shem, Ham and Japheth? Genesis 43:33…the firstborn according to his birthright and the youngest according to his youth…
  • GE.10:25, THE EARTH WAS DIVIDED Gen 10:25 Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg, because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.
  • GE.10:25, THE EARTH WAS DIVIDED Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown says, “The natural view of these words implies a reference to a formal division of the earth, which, as has been thought, from several passages of Scripture (Deut 32:8; Acts 17:24-26), as well as from the probability of the thing itself, was made by Noah, acting under divine impulse, into three partitions, one of which was appropriated to each of his three sons. According to the Hebrew chronology, this authoritative distribution took place about a century after the deluge, most probably at the birth of Peleg, and his name was a memorial of that event. Other interpretations have been given of this passage. Some, rendering the words, the earth was cut into canals….
  • GE.10:25, THE EARTH WAS DIVIDED …Hebrew verb to cleave, to divide water-courses (Job 38:25), says Cyril Graham, refers rather to a mechanical division of land, such as plowing or cutting, than to a political division. We have no doubt that this notice, short as it is, is a record of the first cutting of some of those canals which are found in such numbers between the Tigris and the Euphrates… Others are of opinion that extensive landslips occurred- the sea bursting through many parts of the solid land and forming straits and gulfs, or separating continents, and that it was to such breaches the dividing of the earth refers. A third class suppose that the allusion is not to the general dispersion of Noahs descendants, but to a division in Ebers family-the Joktanidoe….
  • GE.10:25,THE EARTH WASDIVIDED Pangea
  • NO AGREEMENT IN ARTIST RENDERINGS
  • GML COMPASS, NEVER RAINED PRE-FLOOD? You come to that conclusion by comparing Genesis 2:5-6 …to Genesis 7:4… God had not sent rain upon the earth . . . But a mist used to rise from the earth and water the whole surface of the ground. —Genesis 2:5-6 I will send . . . rain on the earth forty days and forty nights; —Genesis 7:4 There is an interesting theory that the weather problems today may have stemmed from the atmospheric changes due to the mountains that formed as the continents separated—either during or just after the flood. This theory assumes that the animals on the earth were all from one piece of land for Noah to take on the ark…
  • GML COMPASS, NEVER RAINED PRE-FLOOD? ... There is some scientific evidence (that doesnt refute biblical teaching) that the seven major land masses were previously one large piece of land. Also, since the water God sent came from above AND below, there was apparently some kind of vapor canopy surrounding the earth. This water canopy fell, causing the flood, along with the water from the great deep (Genesis 7:11). Since people lived much longer in those days, the vapor canopy protection from the sun could have contributed to this long life…
  • GE.10:25, THE EARTH WAS DIVIDED Pangaea?
  • GEN 10:32, LOCAL FLOOD? Gen 10:32 These are the clans of Noahs sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood. If their were other “lines of descent, within their nations” that didn’t get off Noah’s barge, wouldn’t God have an obligation to mention them here? If Noah’s flood was a local flood, was God ignorant of them, or their “lines of descent,” or is He avoiding mention of all the others who survived the local flood, or is He being deceptive? Cause it sure sounds like “From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.”
  • GEN 11:1-4 Gen 11:1-9 Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2 As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. 3 They said to each other, "Come, lets make bricks and bake them thoroughly." They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth."
  • BRICKOVENS INIRAQ NOW
  • ARCHEOLOGY German archaeologist Robert Koldewey in 1899… dug on the Babel site for some fourteen years and unearthed many of its features including the outer walls, inner walls, foundation of the Tower of Babel, Nebuchadnezzars palaces and the wide processional roadway which passed through the heart of the city.
  • DAN 3:19, SEVEN TIMES HOTTER C. Missler says, “Furnace: N. Iraq: brick furnaces, size of city block; pitch, sulfur; + bellows.” Archeological S.B says, “One kiln discovered at Nippur (from approx. 2000 B.C.) is fashioned like a railway tunnel, with one end blocked and the other serving as an entrance…punishment by burning is well attested in the ancient Near East” Jer 29:22…The Lord treat you like Zedekiah and Ahab, whom the king of Babylon burned in the fire.
  • LOCATION OF THE TOWER OF BABEL?, FROM MAURY Babylon lies 90 Kilometers This is believed to be south of Baghdad, and 10 the ancient location Kilometers north of Hilla of the Tower of …The Iraqi government has Babel. launched a project to renovate the interior of the prophet Ezekiels shrine in the small town of Kifl, south of Baghdad, and the countrys Ministry for Tourism and Antiquities says it hopes to eventually repair and renovate other Jewish sites across the country.
  • BABEL= CONFUSION OT:894, Babel (baw-bel); from OT:1101; confusion; Babel (i.e. Babylon), including Babylonia and the Babylonian empire: KJV - Babel, Babylon.
  • GEN 11:5-9 5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. 6 The Lord said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other." 8 So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why it was called Babel — because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

  • GENESIS 11:7, TONGUES Geneva Notes says, “By this great plague of the confusion of tongues appears Gods horrible judgment against mans pride and vain glory.”
  • GENESIS 11:7, TONGUES Ps 64:7-8 But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be struck down. 8 He will turn their own tongues against them and bring them to ruin; all who see them will shake their heads in scorn. Isa 28:11 Very well then, with foreign lips and strange tongues God will speak to this people, Paul quotes this in;
  • GENESIS 11:7, TONGUES 1 Cor 14:19-25 But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue. 20 Brothers, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults. 21 In the Law it is written: "Through men of strange tongues and through the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people, but even then they will not listen to me," says the Lord. 22 Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; prophecy, however, is for believers, not for unbelievers. 23 So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and some who do not understand or some unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind? 24 But if an unbeliever or someone who does not understand comes in while everybody is prophesying, he will be convinced by all that he is a sinner and will be judged by all,
  • GEN 5:3-32, ADAM TO SHEM Gen 5:3-5 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. 4 After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 5 Altogether, Adam lived 930 years, and then he died. Some teach that there are “gaps” in the genealogy here, yet hold to inerrancy. How? Where?
  • GEN 5:3-32, ADAM TO SHEM Adam had lived 130 years, … Seth. Seth had lived 105 years….Enosh. Enosh had lived 90 years….Kenan. Kenan had lived 70 years…Mahalalel. Mahalalel had lived 65 years….Jared. Jared had lived 162 years…Enoch. Enoch had lived 65 years…Methuselah. Methuselah had lived 187 years…Lamech Lamech had lived 182 years…Noah Noah was 500 years old…Shem, Ham and Japheth. [Total = 1556 years]
  • GEN 5:3-32, ADAM TO SHEM Gen 5:3-32, 1556 Years Adam to Shem Gen 7:11-12 In the six hundredth year of Noahs life, on the seventeenth day of the second month — on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. 1556 Years, plus 100 years= 1656 Years Adam to Flood
  • GEN 11:10-26, SHEM TO ABRAM Two years after the flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arphaxad. 12 When Arphaxad had lived 35 years…Shelah… 14 When Shelah had lived 30 years…Eber… 16 When Eber had lived 34 years…Peleg… 18 When Peleg had lived 30 years…Reu…. 20 When Reu had lived 32 years…Serug…. 22 When Serug had lived 30 years…Nahor…. 24 When Nahor had lived 29 years…Terah…. 26 After Terah had lived 70 years…Abram… 2+35+30+34+30+32+30+29+70 = 292
  • GEN 11:10-26, SHEM TO ABRAM 1656 Years Adam to Flood 292 Flood to Abram’s birth 1656 + 292 = 1948 years Adam to Abram’s birth
  • GEN 11:10-26, SHEM (NOT TRIPLES) Genesis 11:10…Shem was one hundred years old…two years after the flood; Genesis 5:32 Noah was five hundred years old, and Noah became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. In the six hundredth year of Noahs life, on the seventeenth day of the second month …the heavens were opened. Flood lasted 371 days 371 days + 2 years = Shem was 100 years old Looks like room for Japheth to be 1 yr. older
  • GEN 11:27-32, TÔLEDÔT OF TERAH 27 This is the account of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot. 28 While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the land of his birth. 29 Abram and Nahor both married. The name of Abrams wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahors wife was Milcah; she was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milcah and Iscah. 30 Now Sarai was barren; she had no children. 31 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Haran, they settled there. 32 Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Haran.

  • FLOOD STORIES IN EVERY REGION ON EARTH “Native global flood stories are documented as history or legend in almost every region on earth. Old world missionaries reported their amazement at finding remote tribes already possessing legends with tremendous similarities to the Bibles accounts of the worldwide flood. H.S. Bellamy in Moons, Myths and Men estimates that altogether there are over 500 Flood legends worldwide. Ancient civilizations such as (China, Babylonia, Wales, Russia, India, America, Hawaii, Scandinavia, Sumatra, Peru, and Polynesia) all have their own versions of a giant flood. These flood tales are frequently linked by common elements that parallel the Biblical account…” http://www.nwcreation.net/noahlegends.html
  • ACTS 17:26, GEN 11 TODAYS CREATION MOMENT DIFFERENT RACES, ONE BLOOD Listen Acts 17:26 "And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation…" How did we get all of the different races on earth if we are all descended from Adam and Noah and his family? Todays differing racial and cultural characteristics began at the separation of the worlds population into different groups based upon language. This followed the affair at the Tower of Babel. Before this separation, the one population shared the genetic traits of all humanity. In other words, they had a common gene pool. After the separation into groups, each group contained only a part of the former gene pool. This means that each group had lost some of the genetic information. As one

  • ACTS AND FACTS, DR. The study has revealed an unexpected lack of diversity within worldwide human mitochondrial lineages, despite high mutation rates, and this supports the idea that humanity is only a few thousand years old. …it contains several interesting tenets: 1) there was a single dispersal of mankind with three main mitochondrial lineages interspersed within clans; 2) the dispersion was centered in the Middle East in the recent past; 3) the dispersion was essentially tribal in nature, with small groups pushing into previously uninhabited territory; and 4) genetic evidence indicates that male lineages are much more geographically specific than female lineages, with female migration rates up to eight times greater than males. This latter tenet is an expression of the Babel account in Genesis, where the initial, well-mixed population split up and migrated
  • ACTS AND FACTS In Acts and Facts, May, 2008, pg. 6, Dr. Larry Vardiman, Director of Research at ICR, wrote “Mitochondrial DNA and a Recent Human Origin.” Mitochondrial DNA and a Recent Human Origin by Larry Vardiman, Ph.D. * A team of scientists that includes Dr. Daniel Criswell of ICR has recently completed a study of mitochondrial DNA and will be presenting its work at this summers International Conference on Creationism. A mitochondrion is a cellular power plant that generates most of the chemical energy the cell needs to support its functions. Although most of a cells DNA is contained in the nucleus, the mitochondrion has its own small DNA molecule and this DNA is passed down from mother to child. The study has revealed an unexpected lack of diversity within worldwide human mitochondrial lineages, despite high mutation rates, and this supports the idea that humanity is only a few thousand years old. Mitochondrial DNA has been used to develop several models of human

  • THIS IS BELIEVED TO BE THE ANCIENT LOCATIONOF THE TOWER OF BABEL Maury Babylon lies 90 Kilometers south of Baghdad, and 10 Kilometers north of Hilla the road to Babylon branches of the main Baghdad-Hilla highway. Heavy traffic flows on a four-lane road, which becomes two lanes without any slowing of traffic speeds. Terraces and green gardens flourish behind walls, palm fronds sticking up like plants growing in giant, square pots. Army posts frequently block roads, always with armed soldiers halting traffic for inspections The Iraqi government has launched a project to renovate the interior of the prophet Ezekiels shrine in the small town of Kifl, south of Baghdad, and the countrys Ministry for Tourism and Antiquities says it hopes to eventually repair and renovate other Jewish sites across the country.
