    26. 26. Please open to Rom 13:1-5 Obey Government Or God? • Rom 13:1-5 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4 For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.

    34. 34. Socialism Or Generosity?, gracethrufaith.com • Q. I often see people say that Jesus (and the Bible) promote Socialism. While I know most Christians are against Socialism, I can see passages where it does sound like the early Church was practicing what we now call Socialism. Just one passage for example: 2 Corinthians 8: 13-16 and there are others. Any light you can shed on this would be appreciated. • A. In Acts 4:32-36 we’re told how the believers in the early church shared everything they had with one another so there were no needy persons among them. And in 2 Cor. 8:13-16 Paul encouraged the believers in Corinth who had more that they needed, to share their plenty with others who were hard pressed. But none of this was done because of an enforced economic system. It was done voluntarily out of a conviction that the Lord would see to their needs (2 Cor. 8:8-9). Each one who had more than they needed did not think it was necessary to store up their excess because they trusted the Lord to provide for them. Therefore they felt
    35. 35. Socialism Or Generosity?, gracethrufaith.com • comfortable giving it to others. This was not just an issue for their time. The Bible encourages all of us to give of our excess to help those in need, promising that the Lord will respond to our generosity with blessings in kind. Read Luke 6:38 and 2 Cor. 9:6-11 to confirm this. This is not socialism, which ultimately inhibits enterprise and brings a society to its lowest common denominator. It’s faith based generosity, which rewards enterprise and brings a society to its highest common denominator. In 2 Cor. 9:6 Paul promised that everyone who sows generously will also reap generously. And in 2 Cor. 9:11 He said we’ll be made rich n every way so we can be generous on every occasion. Socialism makes no such promises. • http://gracethrufaith.com/ask-a-bible-teacher/socialism- generosity/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Gracethrufaith+%2 8GraceThruFaith%29
    36. 36. 2 Corinthians 8:13, Help Each Other • 2 Corinthians 8:13 For this is not for the ease of others and for your affliction, but by way of equality-- 14 at this present time your abundance being a supply for their need, so that their abundance also may become a supply for your need, that there may be equality; 15 as it is written, "HE WHO gathered MUCH DID NOT HAVE TOO MUCH, AND HE WHO gathered LITTLE HAD NO LACK."
    37. 37. So, In Closing
    38. 38. No Vacancies • We had been on the road for 15 hours en route from New York to California and were looking for a place to spend the night. At four different motels, though, we were told, "Sorry, no vacancies.“ Heading back to the car, my seven- year-old asked solemnly, • "Mom, are we vacancies?"
