Acts 4:12, Memory Verse • Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." • Nora Newport relates, “As we returned from Vacation Bible School one summer day, my young daughter Melissa asked if we could stop at the library. When I asked her why, she explained, "This morning my teacher told me that the only way we get to heaven is if our name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life. • I just want to make sure that my name is in there!"

NIV • 1 Cor 8:8 But food will not commend us to God; we are neither the worse if we do not eat, nor the better if we do eat. NASB • Food is not a religious thing, just fuel. • But I still get hungry!
  13. 13. Vegetarianism And Adventists • While “reasoning from the Scriptures” with a Seventh Day Adventist young man one day, I realized that he was trusting in the hope that his “being a good person” and in his being a vegetarian, might get him into heaven. • I reminded him that Jesus ate the Passover lamb, and fish, and that Peter was commanded three times to "Get up, Peter, kill and eat!” in Acts 10:13. • NAU Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
  14. 14. Acts 10:13, Adventists • None of the points listed next divide between orthodoxy/heterodoxy, but all are good to consider when talking with Seventh Day Adventists to determine what the individual Adventist is trusting in for their eternal destiny.

White • Steers (1Cor. 8:8, Acts 10:13), vs. vegetarianism • Satan Sin Bearer, Lev. 16, http://www.slideshare.net/dkooyers/leviticus-1216-scapegoat-azazel- satan-the-sin-bearer-laws-about-after-childbirth-day-of-atonement-male-and-female-circumcision-male-and-female-differences-aaronic-priests- leprosy-hyssop?utm_source=slideshow&utm_medium=ssemail&utm_campaign=post_upload_view_cta • Sin Penalty is hell (Matt 8:29, Mark 5:7, Luke 8:28, 16:23, 28, Revelation 14:9-11) • Sunday Worship is the mark of the Beast • Separating from the Body of Christ over secondary issues
  16. 16. www.compass.org Listed some “diet verses” that may help us diet • QUESTION Dear Compass, • I have tried scores of different diets my entire life, and nothing seems to work for very long. Do you know of any "scriptural" diets I could follow? Or maybe some inspirational "diet" verses? • www.compass.org suggested some “diet verses” that may help us diet;
  17. 17. Acts 10:14, Diets • ANSWER, This is a new area for us. Since we have seen some that DO need to diet, we'll take a crack at this. :-) • Print the verses below and take them with you wherever you go. Just before each meal, read one of the following verses OUT LOUD (reading "out loud" is the key ingredient to this diet - and this includes when you are eating in restaurants, airports, with friends, etc.. Do this for 60 days. • . . . do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? — 1 Corinthians 6:19. . . they are enemies of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite . . . Philippians 3:18-19 • For sin shall not be master over you . . . — Romans 6:14 • . . . for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. — Romans 14:17 • The righteous has enough to satisfy his appetite, but the stomach of the wicked is in want. — Proverbs 13:25
  18. 18. Acts 10:14, Diets • For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body. —1 Corinthians 6:20 • . . . put a knife to your throat, if you are a man of great appetite. — Proverbs 23:2 • I buffet my body and make it my slave . . . — 1 Corinthians 9:27 • Food is for the stomach, and the stomach is for food; but God will do away with both of them. Yet the body is . . . for the Lord; —1 Corinthians 6:13 • And in their heart they put God to the test by asking for food according to their desire. — Psalm 78:18 • . . . I shall not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ shall even now, as always, be exalted in my body . . . — Philippians 1:20 • When confronted with the desire to eat between-meal snacks, read one of these verses out loud.
  19. 19. Acts 10:14, Diets • I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. — Philippians 4:13 Whatever is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, of good repute, if there is any excellence and anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. —Philippians 4:8 • Please let us know how this diet works :-) • Full article is a slide after “THE END”
  20. 20. Acts 10:16, Three Times • Acts 10:16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven. • Matt 26:34 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.“ • NAU 2 Corinthians 12:7 ….there was given me a thorn in the flesh… 8 Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me…
  21. 21. Acts 10:20, Do Not Hesitate • Acts 10:20 So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them." • Why do you suppose the Spirit said, “Do not hesitate to go with them.” • Acts 18:9-10 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. 10 For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.“ • Acts 27:23-24 Last night an angel of the God whose I am and whom I serve stood beside me 24 and said, 'Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.'
  22. 22. The Progress of the Gospel, Alex R. Hay • It will have been observed that what was accomplished by the founders and first missionaries of the Early Church was done through the normal working of the Holy Spirit. It is often thought that Barnabas, Paul, Luke, Timothy, Titus, Silas and the other New Testament Evangelists just suddenly and miraculously found themselves possessed of the necessary knowledge and experience for the ministry they were called to, that the churches sprang up miraculously, that Elders were found ready immediately and that a special dispensation of the Spirit's power was manifested at that time in both Evangelists and converts.
  23. 23. The Progress of the Gospel, Alex R. Hay • That may seem a plausible excuse for the comparative powerlessness evident today, but there is no ground for it in Scripture. We have seen that Paul and his companions had to go through years of preparation in the school of hard experience, becoming thoroughly acquainted with the principles of spiritual life and ministry and with the structure of the local church, before the Holy Spirit sent them forth to the work. It was seven years after Pentecost before the Lord led out to the evangelization of the Gentile world, because Greek-speaking men must first have years of experience to fit them for the work. Those who ministered did so at as great a cost as is required of us today. In the churches, Elders and Deacons were not appointed until ample time had been given for them to be proved. Even in the church in Jerusalem this was so. And the enemy was just as active in just the same way, spreading false doctrine, causing divisions and using every weakness of the human heart.
  24. 24. The Progress of the Gospel, Alex R. Hay • No, it was not easier in those early days; the work was done then just as it has to be done today. It was done victoriously because it was done in God's way, in the power of the Spirit, through utter yieldedness, obedience, prayer and faith. Those who are willing to walk in the same way today will reap the same fruit. The whole difficulty is the cost of this walk. It means taking the way of sacrifice that our Lord and the early Evangelists of the Church did not shrink from taking. It means continual death to the flesh with its desires, wisdom and pride. That there are those who are willing for this, there is no doubt. There has always been such a company and there always will be so long as the Spirit of Christ remains among men. The number may not be great, because few will be willing to pay the cost, but the Lord will be with those who do and their labor and testimony will bear eternal fruit.
  25. 25. ACTS 10:21 I Am He Whom Ye Seek
  26. 26. • Acts10:24 Cornelius was expecting them… • Why? • Acts 10:3…He distinctly saw an angel of God… • It’s about 30 miles, like walking to Cloverdale
  27. 27. Acts 10:25-26, I Am Only A Man • Acts 10:25-26…Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. 26 But Peter made him get up. "Stand up," he said, "I am only a man myself.“ • Peter should have said, “Here, kiss my ring! I’m the vicar of Christ and I were funny hats.”
  28. 28. Acts 10:34, Peter’s Repentance • Acts 10:34-35 Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right. • Acts 10:34…I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: KJV • Acts 10:34…God is not one to show partiality, NASU • Acts 10:34…God does not show partiality to anyone because of his looks or circumstances… An Expanded Translation by Kenneth S. Wuest
  29. 29. Acts 10:42, He Ordered Us To Preach To Sinners • Acts 10:42 "And He ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead. • Colossians 1:25 Of this church I was made a minister according to the stewardship from God bestowed on me for your benefit, so that I might fully carry out the preaching of the word of God, • H. Grattan Guiness (1835-1910) said, "I do now most heartily desire to live but to exalt Jesus; to live preaching and to die preaching; to preach to perishing sinners till I drop down dead."
  30. 30. Acts 10:43, All The Prophets • Acts 10:43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." • Who is “all the prophets”? • Who is “everyone who believes in him”? • John 1:12, 3:16 • 2Pet 3:9 not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. • 1 Timothy 2:4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (NASB)
  31. 31. Acts 11:2, Peter Criticized • Acts 11:2…Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized… • Doesn’t seem like they think he’s the first infallible pope.
  32. 32. Acts 11:11-12, 10 Men • Acts 11:11-12… three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying. 12 The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them. These six brothers also went with me… • #’s 10 & 2 reminds me of “witness” • Zechariah 8:23, Jeremiah 41:1, 2 Chronicles 4:7-8, 2 Kings 20:9-11
  33. 33. Acts 11:15, At The Beginning • Acts 11:15 "As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning. • What does “at the beginning” mean? • Some hyper dispensationalists say the church starts in Acts 28, or later.
  34. 34. Acts 11:18, Even The Gentiles! • Acts 11:18 When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, "So then, God has granted even the Gentiles repentance unto life.” • We’re in stage 4; • NAU Acts 1:8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."
  35. 35. Acts 11:18, God Has Granted • Acts 11:18 …"So then, God has granted even the Gentiles repentance unto life.” • “God has granted” their change of thought or mind. • “Repent” absolutely cannot mean “turn from your sins” (completely different Greek words), because that would make God responsible for their sins, He had not granted “repentance.” • No, in Acts 11:18 “God has granted” them a change of thought or mind about their sin condition before God • We would never come to Him if God hadn’t granted, called, arranged, moved, wooed, and bought us! • http://www.slideshare.net/dkooyers/matthew-3-repent-stop-sinning-turn-metanoeo-penance-believe-gospel- salvation-1-272013-ss
  36. 36. We Are Called Be Witnesses! • We need discernment to know who to witness to. Are they devout, God fearing, religious, praying people who are lost like Cornelius was? • Romans 10:2 For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. • Are they trusting in a different gospel, different Jesus, and/or different gospel (2 Corinthians 11:4)? • Warren Wiersbe has said, “Christians think they are prosecuting attorneys or judges, when, in realty, God has called all of us to be witnesses.” • Judging others, Luke 6:37 Rom 14:10 James 4:11 1 Cor 4:3, 4:5, 5:12, Matthew 7:1
  37. 37. So in conclusion • We are all called be witnesses! • Witnesses to the whole world • Even the unspeakable gentiles • Even the devoutly religious • Even the atheists, and irreligious • Acts 1:8 “…even to the remotest part of the earth." • Even to your neighbor in Anderson Valley!
