  • 9. The sweat of your work, the workof your slavery.

  • 11. Is this you, this back that isbent, this back that breaks
  • 12. Under the weight of humiliation
  • 13. This back trembling with redscars
  • 14. And saying no to the whip underthe midday sun, but a gravevoice answers me
  • 15. Splendidly alone amidst whiteand faded flowers
  • 16. This is your Africa springing upanew
  • 17. Springing uppatiently, obstinately
  • 18. Whose fruit bit by bitacquires, the bitter taste ofliberty
