1. 1. home hardware required to connect to the internet
  2. 2. What is it?

Home hardware helps you connect to the internet from as the name suggests from home.

The are many types of hardware that you require to connect to the internet. The type of hardware that you require are

A computer/laptop

A internet service provider- company that offers its customers access to the Internet .

A telephone line

A modem or router

Cable TV

Satellite dish

Power line

Mobile phone

  3. 3. What function it performs in order to connect to the internet

The many different types of home hardware that is required allows you to connect to the internet. There are many types of internet connections, that are connected in different ways and at the same time perform differently

  4. 4. VARIATIONS OR TYPES

As a homeowner (or renter), you likely have several options for how to connect to the Internet. The connection method you choose affects how a home network must be set up to support Internet connection sharing.

  5. 5. DSL

One of the most common way of internet connection

Provides fast internet using phone lines

Connection can be shared using wired or wireless

In some of the other countries it is also known as ADSL, ADSL2, or ADSL2+

  6. 6. CABLE

A form of broadband internet connection

Its uses cable television rather than pone lines

But the same routers are used between cable and DSL

  7. 7. DIAL UP

Once the most standard form of internet

Uses telephone lines by the connection taking over the wire preventing one from making calls

Most homes have ICS where homes have a single point where internet connects.

Difficult to find and do not perform well due to slow internet pipe.

  8. 8. ISDN - Integrated Services Digital Network

In the 1980s served many customers with DSL like services

Works over telephone lines and like DSL it supports voice and data traffic

Provides 2-3 times the performance of dial up

Home networking similar to dial up

  9. 9. s atellite Internet

Starband, direcway and windblue offer these sort of services

A mini dish with a modem inside the home, connection could be made through satellite link or satellite television services

Troubles as couldn’t work with broadband routers and online games would work

Reaches service provider over utility power lines

  10. 10. BPL - Broadband over Power Line

Connection over residential power lines

Generates inference affection other radio transmissions

Need specialized equipment to connect

Works analogs to phone lines using signals not used to transmit internet

  11. 11. Power line home networking

Don’t confuse with BPL

Establishes local computer network but doesn’t reach the internet

Maintains local pone network over phone lines but doesn't extend to the internet connection of DSL, ISDN or dial up

  12. 12. Other Forms of Internet Connectivity

Fractional T1/T3 Internet – telecommunication firms that give lease ( connects two locations for private voice and/or data telecommunication service ) to the network cables. Underground fibre of copper cables that connect to the service provider, with home connection over Ethernet ( Ethernet is a mature hardware technology that utilizes standard cables and adapters to network computers inside homes, schools and offices. )cables

Cellular Internet - connection over mobiles

Wireless Broadband Internet - high speed internet over base stations like cellular networks

  13. 13. Pros and cons of the 3 most used internet connections Type of connection advantage disadvantage DSL - faster internet connection - don’t need to build infrastructure - more reliable - can use internet and phone at the same time - east installation - better security - available in populated areas - slower as you use up the usage Cable - high speed - covered digitally so doesn’t affect speed - always on so you don’t have to wait to connect to the internet - not available in every area - always on so security will be needed. Dial up - economic and widely available - cheap- same as cost of local calls - standard modem so hardware cost minimal - slow - cant make phone calls - performance overhead with affects the speed.
  14. 14. uses

The uses of home hardware is that it allows you to access the internet from home. Meaning that all the things you have to do and all the things you want to do.
