Indications are that libraries’ websites or portals are well thought of by researchers across the board <ul><li>Must be a Department project </li></ul><ul><li>Bottom up work needs to be sustained and supported </li></ul><ul><li>Otherwise project dies and may need forcing from the top </li></ul><ul><li>Must be seen to make a differece </li></ul>

Need to communicate with all the stakeholders <ul><li>Create a community and be inclusive </li></ul><ul><li>Who are they ? </li></ul><ul><li>- Faculty, high priority stakeholder </li></ul><ul><li>- Students – graudates, undergraduates </li></ul><ul><li>- Non academic staff, technical and admin </li></ul><ul><li>- Other interested parties </li></ul>

Establish their requirements <ul><li>All with different needs to be addressed </li></ul><ul><li>They shape the product </li></ul><ul><li>Balance between what is common and what is different </li></ul><ul><li>Structured and non ad hoc (non who shouts loudest) </li></ul><ul><li>Go out to them – surveys, workshop, RSS, Blog….. and more. M ost researchers lack any clear understanding of what the library is doing on their behalf. </li></ul>

Our vision – the bigger picture <ul><li>Envision a situation where our webpage is a model for the Faculty/University </li></ul><ul><li>Take on board the Challenges </li></ul><ul><li>- custodian of collections, subject-specialist, teacher of information management skills </li></ul><ul><li>- negotiate the purchase and facilitate the delivery and access to information </li></ul><ul><li>- web learning, VLE’s, VRC’s </li></ul><ul><li>- web publishing, manage ir’s of digital information </li></ul><ul><li>- copyright issues </li></ul>
