    • ARE WE MAKING A DIFFERENCE?
    • 1. Preparedness is the 1 st response mechanism at the onset of a disaster. It is best done at local level
    • DIPECHO trained community Task Forces / Volunteer Groups were the first responder on the site to respond in:
      • June 2007 land slides in Chittagong – ActionAid BGD
      • January 2010, Attabad- Hunza landslides – AKF/Focus Pak
      • July/Aug 2010, monsoon floods – AKF/Focus Pak
    Lessons Learned and Good Practices
    • Quality of the relationship and linkages between partners/communities and the government authorities enhances the sustainability.
    • At local level
      • Mainstreaming DRR through partnership with PRI, Local bodies and Government in Assam, India – Caritas India
    • Central/Regional level [Policy and Advocacy]
      • Formulation of National Strategy for DRM based on HFA in Nepal – DIPECHO Nepal
      • Streamlining of Early Warning System in Nepal – Practical Action and Mercy Corps
      • Emerging National Platforms – DIPECHO BGD & Nepal
    Lessons Learned and Good Practices
    • 3. Coordination mechanisms increase the overall impact of the interventions when put at best use
      • Reciprocal Training on specific issues (PwD and child inclusive DRR, disaster friendly school, CBOs capacity building) – DIPECHO Bangladesh
      • Joint IEC materials development, radio program on DRR, DIPECHO evaluation, trainings and advocacy – DIEPCHO Nepal
    Lessons Learned and Good Practices
    • Need to move beyond pilot projects…
    • Harness opportunities for replication!
    • There are a number of innovative models, materials and practices to be replicated in the region and elsewhere
    • Streamlining of Early Warning System in Nepal – PA and MC
    • EWS model of Kailali has been adopted in Assam – AA India
    • Child inclusive DRR, Bangladesh – Plan International
    • PwD inclusive DRR, Orissa - HI India
    • School Safety plans, mannuels, models, curriculum and IEC materials, India – Christian Aid and AKF/FOCUS
    • Inclusion of Hazard Safety Cadet Corp (HSCC) in the secondary education programme of the Government of Assam – AA India
