  • 1. Ten steps to interview success Here is how to get it done the right way
  • 2. Know the company
    • Do a little research before your interview.
    • Find out about the company or place of business. State something positive about the place of business.
    • EX: “I see that Jamba Juice buys only organic products”
  • 3. PRACTICE
    • Practice answering question in the mirror.
    • Stay relaxed and always look the interviewer in the eye.
    • Be yourself !
    • Practice with a friend or parent
  • 4. Dress the part
    • Take into account where you are interviewing. Suit and tie or clean pressed slacks or skirt?
    • Clean groomed hair.
    • Clean shoes.
    • No excessive jewelry
    • No perfume or cologne.
  • 5. Get there early
    • Arrive 10-15 minutes before your interview. Any earlier is too early unless
    • instructed to do so.
    • Bring a note pad and paper.
    • Bring your questions.
  • 6. Make a good impression
    • Shake his or her hand firmly but not a vice grip
    • Look them in the eyes
    • Smile and say something enthusiastic like
    • “Hi Mrs. Spencer it is nice to meet you.
    • Wait to be asked to sit.
    • End well. Thank them for their time and tell them that you look forward to hearing from them in near future.
  • 7. Answer Well.
    • Answer question directly.
    • Don’t carry on. Gather your thought and answer questions directly.
    • Remember look the interviewer in the eye.
    • Be honest
  • 8. Ask Questions
    • It is okay to ask questions-to a point.
    • Take notes on your writing pad as the interview progresses. Bring in questions you may have had before the interview started).
    • When the time is right (the interviewer will ask: “ Do you have any question for me”?)
    • It is okay to ask the hourly pay.
  • 9. Follow up
    • Send a thank you note thanking the interviewer for their time.
    • It is okay to follow up with a phone call.
    • Customary time is 24-48 hours. But don’t keep calling. If the manager tells you he or she will get back to you then wait. Continuing to call will take you out of the race.
  • 10. Be yourself
    • Relax and be yourself.
    • You’ll be nervous and this is okay.
    • Just focus on being relaxed.
    • Bring copies of your cover letter and resume.
    • Bring a copy of your references ( three is good).
