Lives in Swat District Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province
Known for her activism for women’s rights and education
Taliban had banned the education of girls
In 2008 gave a speech in Peshawar “ How dare the Taliban take away my basic right to education ”
In 2009 she wrote a blog under a pseudonym for BBC detailing her life under Taliban rules
New York Time documentary filmed about her life
Began to rise in prominence, giving interviews in print and on television
Became the chairperson of the District Child Assembly Swat
3. On 9th October 2012, Yousafzai was shot in the head and neck by Taliban gunmen while
returning to home in school bus
Remained unconscious and in critical conditions
After improvement in health taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham
4. Pakistan’s president Asif Ali Zardari and UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon announced
the day 12 July as Malala Day
