Final Project Helpful Questionnaire    Background    Imagine this:  You are the employee of a major ad firm in the city.   Your boss comes  to you and your teammates one day and tells you that they have a lead on a new  client.  He wants you and your team to run the pitch for the new business.      This scenario is not unlike what we’re asking you to do – we’ve set up the business  relationships.  Your job now is to run the first meeting and gather the information  that will enable you to develop the marketing plan, which you will pitch, to your  business later this semester.    Below are some questions to help you focus your first meeting with your business.   The idea is to gather background information of the business, create goals and  objectives, and develop a communication plan – the latter will be the most  important for having a successful project this semester.    Note: Many of these questions should be answered before your first meeting.  You  should research your company and similar companies in the marketplace – for  example: if you have a restaurant, go and look up what other restaurants have  effectively done before – and then see if that strategy is a good fit for your business.    Step 1: Communication with the business    Name of Business Liaison(s):    Contact Email:    Contact Phone Number:    Personal Experience with the Internet / Social Media Tools:    When is the best time to get in contact?   

Step 2: Understanding the Business    Type of Business:    Number of Locations:    Description of Culture:    Business Message to Consumers:      Does the business have an expertise or an interesting story that can be used to  promote it in the marketplace? (IE: Blog advice)    Does the business have events or products, which would lead to interesting rich  media use (pictures, videos, etc)?      Step 3: Creating Goals    What do you hope to accomplish from Social Media Marketing (ex: Increased  Awareness, Better Client Relationships, Etc)?    What is the timeline for the results?      Step 4: Current Marketing    What type of promotion does the business currently do?    What has been effective ways of marketing the product so far?    Who is the target market for these promotions?    What kind of feedback have you received from customers regarding marketing?    What kind of Internet tools do they currently use for social media marketing?     

Step 5: Understanding the Customer    ** As an aside, in this section it would be helpful to meet with customers to learn more.   Ask the business owner if he or she has any recommendations of longterm customers  who they think would be helpful and if it would be acceptable to chat with people at  the business **    Who are the target market or markets for the business?    What are these Customer’s Social Media Experience and Use Pattern?    Why do the customers choose this product or service (What differentiates the  business from others)?    What would make the customer purchase more of the product?    How do most customers hear about the business?      Step 6: Current Online Presence    Current use of the Internet (Website, Twitter, etc):    How does the business rank in mindshare (Google search the business)    What kind of news and press is online related to the business (Google News)    How functional is the website?      Step 7: Other Case Examples    What have other businesses done and how effective has it been?      By the time, you leave the meeting you should have:    Set Communication Schedule:    Understand the business and its goals:
