The Dominican cuisine is definitely influenced by the Spanish cuisine which, combined with the local ingredients, results in delicious dishes. Goat and pork is usually served as well as beef, but the latter is less frequent. Fish and seafood are excellent in quality.
Traditional dishes include the following: bandera (rice, beans, fried potatoes, and salad), cracklings, casava (fried cassava), Moro de habichuelas (rice and beans), and the sopa criolla (meat and vegetables). You should try rum, which is the national drink, and the high-quality coffee, which is strong.
