    • The Dominican Republic is a nation on the island of Hispaniola , part of the Greater Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean region.
    • It is bordered by Haiti and Cuba

    • The basic political system in The Dominican Republic is a Republic .
    • The Dominican Republic´s president is Leonel Fernandez Reyna.
  • 5. INHABITANTS:
    • Around 9 million people live in the Dominican Republic.
    • The capital city is Santo Domingo .
    • The most important cities are Puerto Plata, Santiago de los Caballeros…
  • 6. CULTURE-SIGHTSEEING:
    • If you ever go to the Dominican Republic you should visit the mountain Pico Duarte.
  • 7. GASTRONOMY:
    • The Dominican cuisine is definitely influenced by the Spanish cuisine which, combined with the local ingredients, results in delicious dishes. Goat and pork is usually served as well as beef, but the latter is less frequent. Fish and seafood are excellent in quality.
    • Traditional dishes include the following: bandera (rice, beans, fried potatoes, and salad), cracklings, casava (fried cassava), Moro de habichuelas (rice and beans), and the sopa criolla (meat and vegetables). You should try rum, which is the national drink, and the high-quality coffee, which is strong.

    • The Peso is divided into 100 cents. There are banknotes of 1000; 500; 100; 50; 20; 10; 5 and 1 peso. There are coins of 1 peso, and of 50: 25; 10; 5 and 1 cent.
