  • Ask pupils what does ‘this’ refers to? (Kitten) Who is saying this? (King Ethelred) Is he referring to one or many kittens? (one) Is the kitten near or far away from him? (near)
  • He is pointing to the puppy which is near him and there is only one puppy so he will say it as this is a puppy. Ask pupils which determiner should be used after explaining the situation.
  • Teach pupils how to read off from the matrix table.
