    Situation: You have a hot date tonight. 9pm. You’re gonna make her dinner and you’re gonna do it well. She calls you at around five and tells you she’s got a hankering for some zesty guacamole dip. You’ve never made guacamole before, but your roomie has a packet of guacamole mix and all you need are two ripe avocados. A trip to your local Dissmore’s IGA store is in order.

    A firm, fully green avocado takes 3-4 days to ripen.
    Place in a brown paper bag with a banana to speed ripening process
    A ripe avocado should give just a little bit in response to gentle pressure
    For Guacamole, use an avocado that is slightly more ripethan normal
    Hass variety avocados will blacken inside when over-ripened. Dried out skin and a mushy interior indicate an avocado that is too ripe.
