    2. Diamond Price
      • Diamond is a costly item. It is costly because it is rare and the intrinsic craftsmanship employed to make it glow and allure also adds up to its price. The price is mainly based on color , clarity , carat , cut , certification and seller overheads .
    3. Diamond Shape
      • Round Brilliant Cut Diamonds are the most expensive among all the shapes. This is owing to a greater loss in rough during the cutting and polishing process and they take longer time to polish and cut compared to other diamond shapes. The Round Brilliant Cut is higher in demand than all the other shapes; this also makes it higher in price. They are highly sought after for diamond engagement rings.
      • Princess Cut Diamonds are next in popularity and hence the price. Diamond which is not Round shape is called Fancy Shape Diamond. Asscher, Cushion, Emerald, Heart, Marquise, Oval, Pear, Princess, Radiant and Trilliant cut diamonds are all fancy shape diamonds.
    4. Diamond Clarity , the most influential in price
      • The factor that influences the price the most is the clarity grade of diamond . Diamonds with lower clarity grades like SI1 or SI2 fetch lower price. Diamonds with clarity grade of VVS1 or VVS2 have high clarity and it is hard to find inclusion even with a jeweler’s 10x loupe. The Internally Flawless Diamonds-IF or Loupe Clean clarity grade are the rarest and they fetch premium prices.
    5. Color influence on Price of Diamond
      • Color is another important factor influencing the price of diamond . Diamonds are graded for their color alphabetically starting from D going down to Z. Diamonds which have the least amount of color are known as exceptional white and they include D and E color graded diamonds. The next grade is Rare white and includes F and G color diamonds. H color diamonds are graded as white and I and J color diamonds are called as slightly tinted white diamonds . Diamonds that are colorless or with least amount of color win the highest price along with fancy colored diamonds like pink, blue, green and red diamonds.
    6. Influence of Cut
      • Cut of a diamond has a significant influence on the price as a diamond poorly cut reduces the importance of color and clarity. Cut is the key factor which makes a rough diamond sparkle and shine. In a poorly cut diamond the light enters and leaks out of the sides and bottom of the stone and the diamond will not have the optimum amount of sparkle or fire despite its color or clarity.
      • Ideal and Excellent Cut Diamonds are cut to strict standards to display the beauty of the diamond. The Ideal and Excellent Cut Diamonds always display the maximum brilliance, fire and scintillation as they have perfection in proportion, symmetry and polish.
    7. Influence of Cut
      • 98% of diamond’s brilliance is due to the quality of the cut. Ideal and Excellent Cut Diamonds have accurately proportioned facets, excellent symmetry and polish hence they obtain higher prices. Three main factors – Proportion, Symmetry and Polish control the Diamond Cut Grade. Proportion and Symmetry of the diamond cut control an important factor known as sparkle or brilliance also known as light return of the diamond.
      • Light entering a diamond with Very Good cut grade is reflected most and disperse a good brilliance. The proportions of Very Good cut diamonds are often comparable to Excellent cut diamonds but just differ slightly in only one area of measurement. Very Good cut diamonds also fetch high price.
    8. Influence of Carat weight
      • Carat is a unit of measure not size . Often, two diamonds with same carat weight may appear to be of different sizes. This is due to the cut of the diamond. These diamonds appear smaller visually because they have extra weight on the bottom part of the diamond, the pavilion or a thick girdle.
      • Diamonds sell by carat weight . The heavier a diamond weighs after it is cut, the higher is the price per carat. To get the best possible price per carat, a diamond cutter tries to hold as much carat weight as possible and few inclusions when cutting a diamond. To produce a diamond with higher carat weight, sometimes the cut may be compromised with.
    9. 4C’s - Cut , Color , Clarity & Carat
      • The principle factors for the quality of a diamond: 4 C’s influence the price a lot. Diamonds are assessed on the basis of 4 C’s after they are assorted into their different shapes. The 4 C’s are: Cut, Clarity, Color and Carat . They combine influencing the price of a diamond .
    10. Rapaport Price List
      • “ Rapaport Price” is a well known term in diamond trading industry. It got its name from Martin Rapaport who rose to fame in the diamond industry because of his regular publication of Diamond Report which is one of the principal sources of diamond prices and information for the diamond trade. It also referred to as “Rap Sheet”, “Rap Price”, “Rap List” or just “Rap”. It provides estimates of diamond prices. These price lists are often taken as wholesale prices as they are used by the wholesaler and retailers. In fact, they are not wholesale prices but a base for diamond dealers to use as a starting point from which to negotiate.
    11. Rapaport Price List
      • The price of diamond depends on the grade, carat weight and the mark up cost added by the seller. Once the grade and carat weight of a diamond is known the rest of the equation depends on the markup of the seller. The merchant sets a price that covers the cost of diamond and the cost of doing business. The lower the overhead cost and the middlemen channel, the lower is the final price of the diamond.
      • Factors like exchange rates, fashion trends, supply and demand, international market and inflation also affect the price of diamonds. Diamond is a symbol of love and trust and an excellent investment for centuries.
