  • It's unfortunate that some seriously important photographs have been politicized in such a cheap way. Reading the description of Che Guevera as: 'a symbol of rebellion of human principles against social injustice' I knew we were going to get into trouble. True as a symbol he does represent these things, but as an actor in the world he betrayed principles of humanity perpetuating injustice for the sake of an empty ideology. But I will admit his iconic image makes for a great T-shirt. Hey I used to think he was cool.

Many of these sentiments are simplistic cliches. This little slideshow is an exploitation of suffering for an ideological belief system.

The horrific picture of the child and the vulture was taken in 1993. The suffering of the child is attributed to western exploitation of Sudanese riches. This again is the uncritical anti-American, 'colonization is the cause of all the 3rd world suffering' ideology. In this belief system all 3rd world persons are infantilized as having no ability to take responsibility because imperialism has somehow neutered them so everything is the white guy's fault. (tell this to India and China). Britain formally left Sudan in 1954. The war which caused this child to starve is a local civil war, where the military dictatorship of the Islamic north, declared a Sharia state and attempted to reconquer the independant Christian south (the black people) and impose islamist law. Who are the imperialists and racists in this story?

The climax of course comes as the accumulation of violations against humanity gets associated with the single greatest cause of all human suffering of course, Israel, as presented to the world by the Palestinianian media and propaganda corporation and their intellectually bereft lackies. The Rachel Corrie pictures presented have been acknowledged by CNN and the New York Times as being errors in sequence which misrepresent the time line of events and of course interpretation, but they continue to be presented as fact. see: http://rachelcorriefacts.org/Accident.aspx

the award winning photos of the brutal, bloody occupation of Tibet by the Chinese was left off the list as was that horrifying shot of the Arab janjaweeds in Sudan cutting off the arms of a 10 year old Black Darfurian. There was that equally horrifying award winning photo of the massacre of several hundred children and parents at Beslan in Russia by the Muslim Chechnyans. Oh the list is long. And Israel represents 1/8 of world suffering according to this.

it is one thing to present images of human suffering with empathy, but another to promote a political agenda into them. This is not about photos it is about ideology. Ever heard a picture is worth 1000 words?

sorry, this doesn't work for me.
