    2 Enterprise Mobility Background
The changed dynamics of mobility oriented network, platform, device, plug-n-play application
development, remote hosting and multiple delivery mechanism has initiated and generated
interest in seamless mobility.

The enterprise mobility can be defined as "the mechanism” to enable internal and external
stakeholders for particular services or product to access the information hosted by enterprise or
enterprise outsourced hosting provider using secured wireless tiered devices such as feature
phone, Smartphone and tablets.

With the 70% of the worldwide population using mobile devices; communications and
information, access is shifting from the wired voice mechanism to the wireless devices based
text or information. The flexibility got an increased adoption within Enterprise segment as a way
to keep connected with reduced operating cost by maintaining single device for multiple uses.

The Enterprises are converging from Local to Regional to Global footprint with more flexes to
position their product or services through innovative round the clock approach to capture any
additional revenue and to increase market share.

2.1 Enterprise Mobility process and components
Enterprise communication segment was defined using three tiered mechanism such as
"Process, Interaction and Relationship".

The “Processes” used to be Incompatible due to multiple service and business logic based on
application centric with latent and manual interactions. The "Interaction" used to be Incomplete,
unrelated and tethered due to the attached mechanism explained in process section. The
"Relationship" used to be isolated and managed linearly to make sure of security. These
process of EAI (Enterprise Application Integration) led to complicated process to enable internal
and external user access enterprise owned information for quick resolution of order
management to RCA ( Root Cause Analysis).

With the evolution of communications system the above mentioned three major components of
EAI got the changed dynamics with "Process” becoming more real time based user centric with
supported event dynamics. The "Interaction" turned into location based contextual which
became insightful. The "Relationship" tuned into connected media using collaboration to support
dialog and conversation based services.

This lead to complete transformation which can be categorized into three subsections such as:

      • Existing Enterprise Network

      • Translation Force

      • Enterprise mobility evolving threads

Existing Enterprise Network: Mostly existing enterprise follows legacy mechanism of
managing infrastructure and mobility to avoid any missteps and making sure to trusted blueprint
copy. The network builds on using the combination of Access to Core Network, Applications to
Software integration, service creation to execution to delivery to assurance during development
process. The extensive service, business logic gets defined to map isolated and incompatible to
enable user to access Enterprise owned-n-hosted infrastructure. Additionally, the security,
monitoring and RCA management due emergence of higher speed wireless network as well as
convergence of device due to the OMA-DS, DM mechanism.

Transformational Force: The transformational force enable Enterprise Network owned user to
access backend network hosted information through Mobility Applications using user’s centric
collaborative tools with AAA capabilities and create business opportunities through Social Media

on shared network. The dynamically changed environment within enterprise network from
application to user centric real time access, increased infrastructure utilization as well as helped
in its methodology refinements. By using translation force, Enterprise would be able to define,
redefine their strategies to enable their user access sensitive corporate data using mobility
device thus reducing the constraints of info availability. To reduce the cost of ownership
centralized access, assessments - delivery mechanism oriented platform can be hosted both in
CSP or Enterprise premises to convert isolated Enterprise network into everywhere enterprise
mobility.

That led to a subsection conclusion that "Demand is to have Low cost Mobile applications and
collaboration supporting unified architecture and IT whereas Supply is Open API to enable
Interoperability and fulfilling end user expectations".

2.2 Drivers of Enterprise Mobility
The evolution and convergence of network, platform, product, policies access and
performance management mechanism consolidated enterprise network into three major drivers
such as Network, User and Device aware product or services to create opportunities internally
and externally as well as to position itself with enhanced business opportunities, customer
management. The "Device Aware" interoperable capabilities such as operating systems, user
interface, security management, multiple browser management gets mapped with "Network
Aware" capabilities such as converged network, low latency, secure access, roaming with
available bandwidth on demand. That in turn enables "User Aware" module to facilitate client
applications compatible with available mobility middleware to support converged device type
and format. The some of the major drivers of enterprise mobility are as follows:

      • Move from static to dynamic work, employee role, responsibilities and strategy related
           with time criticality

      • Global virtual teams & innovative business models & services
      • Transformation of information access from PC to Feature Phone to Smart Phone to
           Tablet
      • Cloud based Servers and storage technologies with integrate security
      • Unified Communication through seamless PAN
      • Transformation, availability and support of PC environment applications, format, OS
           interoperability onto Mobility device
      • Service Oriented Open Applications and Standardized architecture

E2E Research

      • Bundling of devices, applications, platform and communication channel to securely
enable user access and change Enterprise backend information dynamically
      • Enterprise are moving from applications based on PC only to converged applications
supporting both PC and Mobility format to enable employee, customer and support to be
more sophisticated and to reduce opex cost of any services.
      • Design and definition of new product around open standard through integrated mobile IT
architecture that does not assume devices are company-owned

      • Open ended monitoring management mechanism with industry defined QoS and KPI’s
for internal and external network, Applications and Resource performance.
      • Availability of mobility aware content, service delivery platform and security to enable
quick new business acquisition and mitigate any competitive threat
      • Emergence of collaborator and competitor ecosystem developed a mechanism for
enterprise to choose interoperable solution to fit into their network to move from static
           work culture to dynamic one.

2.3 Must have factors for successful Enterprise Mobility Adoption
Enterprise Mobility adoption must have some of the must have subsets such as:

      • Accessibility - Available and accessible of hosted or remote resources to end users
           through multiple access mechanism
      • Reachability - Dynamic availability and Reachability with respect to location,
           environment and devices
      • Adaptability - The adaption of multiple operating system and subsequent interoperability
of application to enable user access application irrespective of make, model, format and
operating system of device, applications and middleware
      • Trustworthiness - The dynamic allocation of resources available and accessed through
secured environment increased trustworthiness of user, accessed data and security of
           data
      • Unified access - Unified methodology of data from multiple location and AAA of the
same generated the major demand for Enterprise mobility
      • Selection, transformation and integration of internal applications subsets to enable static
and dynamic network inoperability to achieve anywhere access

E2E Research

      • Identification, Promotion and utilization of collaboration tools linking mobile employees,
hosted by outside partners and customers

      • Open architecture mobility network definition should tie network access back to
directories, identities and roles through hierarchical Preferred access management

      • Preferred access management owned admission control module should have crystal
clear definition of Security, Content, Filtering, Applications, Delivery, Distributed Storage
and Encrypted Data Protection Policies across network, platform and device monitoring
           management

      • Wireless operators should focus on 4G network oriented Enterprise mobility service
across the service geography to get better customer adoption, acquisition and retention
rate through broader education and QoS on solution and application enablement. While
it’s important for business decision-makers to understand the basics of the technology
           (i.e., standards, throughput, latency, etc.),

      • Carriers or Solution Provider must develop one stop channel relationships management
with Enterprise mobility ecosystem player to offer single, simple and integrated seamless
mobile enablement processes to new or existing on/off-premises business applications.

2.4 Benefits of enterprise mobility adoption
Till recent past, Enterprise segment created and hosted their IT infrastructure in centralized
hosted, monitored and managed closed network environment. Enterprises demonstrated no or
little interest in opening their closed network to off net access mechanism to benefit from
growing adoption of mobility devices. Then arrived intermediate phase of semi open enterprise
access network where enterprise IT administrator got confidence of mobility oriented application
access both voice or data centric with email evolution age. It enabled and transformed
enterprise network from tightly integrated private hosting to loosely coupled local data hosted
with platform aware capabilities to understand the contextual nature of user, applications and
networks. The thought process change was initiated and infact enforced due to the changed
market dynamics with respect to mobility which redefined strategic and tactical moves of their
service, support and opportunity.

The Closed IT environment with multiple threads got a facelift through redesigned EAI, Adaptors
and open API's to connect the backend system of the enterprise which helped administrator to
define or refine centralization and decentralization of local or remote data based on the

scenarios. The initiated business and service logic transformed even a closed IT network into
open network with closely knitted process and strong security mechanism

The slow inroad of mobility mechanism within enterprise segment brought multiple positive
implications for both internal and external stakeholder of Enterprise and those are such as:

    • Enforce rapid, distributed decision making through seamless communication, information
access and authorization process and in-turn increases effective and efficient
        management and operation

   • Low cost enablement of stronger applications, resources usage and communications to
       internal and external (partners) user
   • Improve and Enhance customer, partner service management by creating ongoing,
more intimate connections, visibility, support with the same
   • Enhanced RCA process through instantly sharing and collaborating critical information
within customer and partner ecosystem irrespective or locations, presence and devices.
   • Initiate thought process of heterogeneous network based hosted application to increase
more business opportunity. This initiative led to the innovation of SaaS and Cloud
       computing
   • Reduces TCA by distributing Opex. and Capex throughout redefined utilization of
infrastructure, monitoring, management, resources and training against multiple service
       or product.
   • Enable enterprise applications to be transformed from process-centric, to business
       centric user-aware, device-aware and network-aware centric access.
   • Acted as a facilitator for the adoption and transformation of unified messaging to unified
       communications
   • Enabled enterprise to segregate and develop their network using SaaS, IaaS, PaaS,
Security aaS and thereby reduces the cost of network development. They are not forced
to define E2E network design before implementing first application. The main advantage
is "Grow as you learn and Try out before making an Opinion approach".
   • Enable Enterprise IT embrace mobility to promote innovation and empower end-user
application creation, access and management in a real time mode.

The subsection can be concluded as: "Mobility, Collaboration, Consumer, Corporate and
Content" (Which can be explained as below)

      • Improved transparency between the consumer and the business, driving innovation
         through shared ideas and collaboration.
      • Consumers instantly get information from businesses from the device and method of
choice. All their information is delivered based on their preferences. New applications
are created to maximize the interaction across all channels and devices.
      • Enterprises would enable customer to harness revenue opportunities. Enterprise may
guide or offer insight of customer buying patterns and channels of interaction to end
customer for the quick decision making.

2.5 Global Level Enterprise Mobility Technology, Usage Trend & Fact Sheet
The innovation around mobility catches the interest within enterprise segment to start using
mobility components within their IT infrastructure to define new business and service strategies.
The first of the innovation which changed the mindset of large enterprises are device agnostic
mobile email, IM and web access through WAP browser. The components of enterprise mobility
revenue include voice, video, connectivity, messaging. Applications are not considered as part
of Enterprise mobility as most of the applications available are consumer centric compared to
prosumer centric.

The Global level Enterprise Mobility usage Trend’s as analysed by Yankee Group clearly
depicts that more than 80% of the US userbase prefers to use mobility devices for email
services currently and another 8% addition is expected in next 2 years.

Out of 315 million mobility subscriber in US more than 78 million uses enterprise mobility
services generating more than $ 80 billion as revenue translating $17 per use DARPU and
constitute 45% of the total mobility revenue in US. The US network support next generation data
speed and support triple play (Voice, data and video). In coming years, according to some
estimate mobile video, Web/Data, P2P, Enterprise horizontal and vertical Applications would be
the growth driver in next 5 years generating more than 3.6 Exabyte of data which in turn propel
the growth components of backend system to support the same. According to estimate 1.2
billion download generated $2.1Bn revenue which is going to be around 16Bn download and
$6.0Bn. This translates to higher adoption of Smartphone and tablet usage by enterprise user in
a highlighted geography.

E2E Research

In EMEA, out of 1.8 billion mobility user, around 69 million uses enterprise mobility generating
$10 DARPU with total revenue comes to $40 billion which constitute to around 11% of the total
revenue. Most of the userbase uses unified messaging and low bandwidth oriented applications,
one way streaming. The Eastern Europe makes out the most of the userbase as well as
revenue with high speed network whereas eastern Europe still supports low data rate oriented
network due to the per capita income. West Europe would be the driver of mobile data growth in
next 5 years according to estimate.

In Latin America, out of 528 million userbase, around 20 million enterprise user using unified
messaging to fulill their commitments generating 10% of the total mobility revenue i.e. $ 8Bn
translating into $ 5.8 DARPU. The future of enterprise mobility growth would be coming from
Latin America with the network up gradation to 3G or 4G network and the availability of
replicated service or product portfolio by service providers.

In China, out of 849 million plus user, 250 users are using enterprise mobility to generate $40
Bn revenue that translates to around 18% of the total mobility revenue. Mobile video, Video
training, Streaming, mHealth, mCommerce, mPayment, mAdvertisement, SCADA, SFA, Unified
Communications type of service or applications or products are generating higher growth in
revenue and adoption of enterprise mobility

The takeaway of the above assessment can be summarized as follows:
   • Transition and Adoption of Unified Communication from Unified Messaging

quadrant and Android is gaining market share.

      • Enterprise Hosted mobility user prefers to get the hosted application through integrated
communications solution provider (CSP) such as mobile operator

3 Industry Static and Dynamic Factors

3.1 Enterprise Mobility Challenges Fact Sheet
Enterprise Mobility pre- requisite, drivers, usage pattern points to one generic point of unified
network design supporting applications or product or services for both wire line and wireless
network. The changing dynamics of industry clearly demonstrated the need of enterprise
mobility to be seamless in order management, provisioning, activation, assurance and support
of any service round the clock with hundred percent effective and efficient. In order to achieve
the changed customer requirements, Enterprises are either moving towards the adoption of
enterprise mobility by their own or enforced due to the competitive landscape using the same. In
fear of being late to the market, every sector based enterprises are chalking their plan to be
within the said space.

The different sectors are facing complicated task to deliver unified generic solution applicable to
heterogeneous network to enable user access services from different device using multiple
delivery model. The process management on the security, data access, and storage still
possess discomfort for enterprise to accept the mobility model due to the sensitivity of data or
nature of business or recovery model of data or cost associated to it. Some of the challenges
are as follows:

      • Enterprise are targets for viruses, worms and Trojan infections through Convergence of
unified (Un)-wireless applications, network and associated device owned or shared by
them. The application access through unsecured networks such as home broadband
           links or public Wi-Fi hotspots.
      • Employees and partners accessing corporate data via mobile devices, or through secure
WAN links, compound security risks given the mode of access and mechanism
           associated with different technologies

Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 14
E2E Research

   • The device sectors are highly dynamics with hundreds of device OEM and multiple
device OS compounded with cut throat competition forced OEM to refresh their product
portfolio every few quarter which impacts the associated value chain player of Enterprise
mobility to validate, integrate and support device on multiple applications, network and
security standards. One of the major hurdle of Enterprise mobility adoption is Device
       limitation & management
   • Single application interoperable with multiple OS placed in heterogeneous network is not
available. Another major challenge is Lack of internal expertise to manage
       technology
   • Most of the Enterprise applications that are available on desktops are getting
transformed to enable user access through mobile devices. Mobile workers often feel
frustrated because they do not have seamless access and authorization.
   • Managing, Monitoring number of large-scale segregated or consolidated deployment
supporting multiple device platforms, information access environment are complex and
complicated to achieve secure, monitor, upgrade and refresh management.
   • Increased and powerful processor oriented device that can incorporate more information
lead to must have inbuilt security requirement in order to perform authenticate, authorize
secure and control enterprise information flow and mitigate any mismanagement of
       sensitive information.
   • Wireless coverage poses challenges for enterprise mobile users who rely on
       applications that require uninterrupted connection.
   • The transition to translation of 3G network to public Wi-Fi to corporate WLANs often face
problems and require manual intervention by the end-user which may lead to
       eavesdropping.
   • Centralized Device, Network, Monitoring and Security with respect to user access
management possess challenge given the coverage and speed of wireless network.
   • Confusing and Manual convergence process for mobility Users to choose between
cellular service /Wi-Fi, laptops vs. smart phones, web clients vs. fat clients, and other
technologies in order to determine the best way to integrate and access enterprise
       mobility application seamlessly

The takeaway is:
The listed challenges created a hesitation among SME sector to initiate a project of mobility
enablement even though SME realized the need of the same to maintain the expectation of

internal and external stakeholders. The dynamically changing technologies and access
platform enabled innovators to offer virtual capacities and enforced transformed components
into the mindset of Enterprise Network owners.

3.2 Major Initiatives and Launches in Enterprise Mobility Space
The growing adoption or indication of embracing Enterprise Mobility solution set created a
competition among solution provider vendor to collaborate in order to offer consolidated single
platform multiple vendor product set to create one stop solution.

      • IBM launched its Mobile Enterprise Services group in 2009 with an investment plan of
$800 Million. The purpose of IBM is to develop an ecosystem of Enterprise mobility to
define and process Lotus Notes associated with Cloud computing called Blue computing
           center.
      • Orange launched FreeMove Alliance in close collaboration with Sybase, which allows
enterprises to strike a single agreement with a uniform mobile data price across any of
           19 countries.
      • Verizon Launched E2E enterprise mobility platform with device, data, application,
roaming, monitoring and management and competing with AT&T and Sprint Nextel
           Enterprise Mobility
      • Telephonica, Vodafone Launched worldwide Seamless Enterprise Connect in 2009
      • BT launched Enterprise Mobility platform in 2009
      • Airtel India collaborated with SAP to offer Enterprise Mobility solution set through
           integrated data service offering.
      • Big OEM players are developing their own Enterprise Solution set ecosystem provider.
      • Big technology firm with E2E skill-set are putting their weight on preferred
           standardization specifications.
      • SAP acquired Sybase in more than $5Bn acquisition to gain control of their iAnywhere
Enterprise Mobility platform and immediate dominating position in the segment by
           combining their mobility solution.
      • Cisco is developing and offering E2E solution set in Unified communications including
collaboration with EMC and increased stake in VMware. Company is also investing
million of dollar in next generation router with policy and charging mechanism and can
           be supported on multiple network

      • HP acquisition of Palm and commitment of developer eco forum to define applications
development mechanism through offered plug-n-play API’s associated with WebOS
      • IBM acquisition of Enterprise data security solution company BigFix
      • Oracle acquisition of Sun Microsystems to enter into Enterprise Service delivery platform
           segment
      • Google and Amazon focus on Cloud computing. Google recent wish list to hire their own
mobile application engineer and develop applications which can be integrated with their
           Office suit portfolio

3.3 Enterprise Mobility Usages Reality In India
The revolution in telecom sector and lower tarrif rates has enabled VAS providers to develop
cost effective apps for enterprises. In recent past MNC started actively using communications
as a media to connect with internal and external stakeholders that propelled Indian Enterprise
especially SME and SMB to start thinking in the mentioned direction. The first direction of
adoption was visible through the sudden rise of SMS message based ad-services. However, the
realities of Enterprise Mobility adoption in SME’s are the followings

      • It acts as standalone fireworks by offering or solving specific application or business
need. In a generic way it’s a solution which can be reused to create specific application
such as wireless e-mail access, field service environment
      • Extensibility mechanism for other application and services is not incorporated within
           Mobile architectures and platform
      • It lacks stringent policy management for user, device and network for seamless access
           management with security
      • Currently SME implementation decision is based on technology and solution centric as
against the demand of user centric implementation
      • Lack of visibility and control over user device and access management. Most of the data
transfer and synchronization is loosely coupled and creates major concern regarding
           information security
      • The skeleton Enterprise mobility definition and implementation by SME is due to the
complex architecture, service logics and cost associated with full fledged implementation
of Enterprise mobility and associated management cost

E2E Research

3.4 Conclusion
Based on the above mentioned points, Enterprise is not willing to open their network due to the
concern regarding security, data and privacy and at the same time would like to exploit the
advantage of mobility services. It is advisable to initiate basic product positioning using SMS
based applications, alerts or developed product to support their external and internal
stakeholder with respect to product positioning, competitive mitigation, customer awareness,
customer support, RCA solutions, employee management to gain the confidence during phase
1 and subsequently enhance the solution set through demonstration of vendors capabilities
regarding their understanding and expertise in handling converged network, applications,
products, security. It is also very important to highlight that " None of the customer would like to
accept their weakness on the security side but raise security concern to short down the ideas".
To counter customer objections, the discussion should be on the Accessibility, Availability,
Reachability, Trustworthiness and Universal. The above mentioned phase 1 products can be
offered by EM-VAS to Business as well as Consumer through On-net and Off-net network
respectively.

  • 5. E2E Research • Would enable to define and refine strategy to enter, gain or encroach competitor market domain with gradual CAPEX and OPEX allocations with recurring revenue from trial to go approach • Training, Retraining, Innovation and Reuse of collaborator and channel partner • Required co-ordination within organization to enhance reuse methodology, for internal field team, for positioning new services to get market adoption views • Define strategies to keep low TCA The above mentioned takeaway might enable one to quickly qualify and quantify their strategies and refine/define quick to market positioning in highly competitive Indian Enterprise segments which is still in the nascent scenario. Keyword: GoEnterprise, Everywhere Enterprise Mobility Network, EAI,RCA, 2 Enterprise Mobility Background The changed dynamics of mobility oriented network, platform, device, plug-n-play application development, remote hosting and multiple delivery mechanism has initiated and generated interest in seamless mobility. The enterprise mobility can be defined as "the mechanism” to enable internal and external stakeholders for particular services or product to access the information hosted by enterprise or enterprise outsourced hosting provider using secured wireless tiered devices such as feature phone, Smartphone and tablets. With the 70% of the worldwide population using mobile devices; communications and information, access is shifting from the wired voice mechanism to the wireless devices based text or information. The flexibility got an increased adoption within Enterprise segment as a way to keep connected with reduced operating cost by maintaining single device for multiple uses. The Enterprises are converging from Local to Regional to Global footprint with more flexes to position their product or services through innovative round the clock approach to capture any additional revenue and to increase market share. Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 5
  • 6. E2E Research 2.1 Enterprise Mobility process and components Enterprise communication segment was defined using three tiered mechanism such as "Process, Interaction and Relationship". The “Processes” used to be Incompatible due to multiple service and business logic based on application centric with latent and manual interactions. The "Interaction" used to be Incomplete, unrelated and tethered due to the attached mechanism explained in process section. The "Relationship" used to be isolated and managed linearly to make sure of security. These process of EAI (Enterprise Application Integration) led to complicated process to enable internal and external user access enterprise owned information for quick resolution of order management to RCA ( Root Cause Analysis). With the evolution of communications system the above mentioned three major components of EAI got the changed dynamics with "Process” becoming more real time based user centric with supported event dynamics. The "Interaction" turned into location based contextual which became insightful. The "Relationship" tuned into connected media using collaboration to support dialog and conversation based services. This lead to complete transformation which can be categorized into three subsections such as: • Existing Enterprise Network • Translation Force • Enterprise mobility evolving threads Existing Enterprise Network: Mostly existing enterprise follows legacy mechanism of managing infrastructure and mobility to avoid any missteps and making sure to trusted blueprint copy. The network builds on using the combination of Access to Core Network, Applications to Software integration, service creation to execution to delivery to assurance during development process. The extensive service, business logic gets defined to map isolated and incompatible to enable user to access Enterprise owned-n-hosted infrastructure. Additionally, the security, monitoring and RCA management due emergence of higher speed wireless network as well as convergence of device due to the OMA-DS, DM mechanism. Transformational Force: The transformational force enable Enterprise Network owned user to access backend network hosted information through Mobility Applications using user’s centric collaborative tools with AAA capabilities and create business opportunities through Social Media Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 6
  • 7. E2E Research on shared network. The dynamically changed environment within enterprise network from application to user centric real time access, increased infrastructure utilization as well as helped in its methodology refinements. By using translation force, Enterprise would be able to define, redefine their strategies to enable their user access sensitive corporate data using mobility device thus reducing the constraints of info availability. To reduce the cost of ownership centralized access, assessments - delivery mechanism oriented platform can be hosted both in CSP or Enterprise premises to convert isolated Enterprise network into everywhere enterprise mobility. That led to a subsection conclusion that "Demand is to have Low cost Mobile applications and collaboration supporting unified architecture and IT whereas Supply is Open API to enable Interoperability and fulfilling end user expectations". 2.2 Drivers of Enterprise Mobility The evolution and convergence of network, platform, product, policies access and performance management mechanism consolidated enterprise network into three major drivers such as Network, User and Device aware product or services to create opportunities internally and externally as well as to position itself with enhanced business opportunities, customer management. The "Device Aware" interoperable capabilities such as operating systems, user interface, security management, multiple browser management gets mapped with "Network Aware" capabilities such as converged network, low latency, secure access, roaming with available bandwidth on demand. That in turn enables "User Aware" module to facilitate client applications compatible with available mobility middleware to support converged device type and format. The some of the major drivers of enterprise mobility are as follows: • Move from static to dynamic work, employee role, responsibilities and strategy related with time criticality • Global virtual teams & innovative business models & services • Transformation of information access from PC to Feature Phone to Smart Phone to Tablet • Cloud based Servers and storage technologies with integrate security • Unified Communication through seamless PAN • Transformation, availability and support of PC environment applications, format, OS interoperability onto Mobility device • Service Oriented Open Applications and Standardized architecture Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 7
  • 8. E2E Research • Bundling of devices, applications, platform and communication channel to securely enable user access and change Enterprise backend information dynamically • Enterprise are moving from applications based on PC only to converged applications supporting both PC and Mobility format to enable employee, customer and support to be more sophisticated and to reduce opex cost of any services. • Design and definition of new product around open standard through integrated mobile IT architecture that does not assume devices are company-owned • Open ended monitoring management mechanism with industry defined QoS and KPI’s for internal and external network, Applications and Resource performance. • Availability of mobility aware content, service delivery platform and security to enable quick new business acquisition and mitigate any competitive threat • Emergence of collaborator and competitor ecosystem developed a mechanism for enterprise to choose interoperable solution to fit into their network to move from static work culture to dynamic one. 2.3 Must have factors for successful Enterprise Mobility Adoption Enterprise Mobility adoption must have some of the must have subsets such as: • Accessibility - Available and accessible of hosted or remote resources to end users through multiple access mechanism • Reachability - Dynamic availability and Reachability with respect to location, environment and devices • Adaptability - The adaption of multiple operating system and subsequent interoperability of application to enable user access application irrespective of make, model, format and operating system of device, applications and middleware • Trustworthiness - The dynamic allocation of resources available and accessed through secured environment increased trustworthiness of user, accessed data and security of data • Unified access - Unified methodology of data from multiple location and AAA of the same generated the major demand for Enterprise mobility • Selection, transformation and integration of internal applications subsets to enable static and dynamic network inoperability to achieve anywhere access Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 8
  • 9. E2E Research • Identification, Promotion and utilization of collaboration tools linking mobile employees, hosted by outside partners and customers • Open architecture mobility network definition should tie network access back to directories, identities and roles through hierarchical Preferred access management • Preferred access management owned admission control module should have crystal clear definition of Security, Content, Filtering, Applications, Delivery, Distributed Storage and Encrypted Data Protection Policies across network, platform and device monitoring management • Wireless operators should focus on 4G network oriented Enterprise mobility service across the service geography to get better customer adoption, acquisition and retention rate through broader education and QoS on solution and application enablement. While it’s important for business decision-makers to understand the basics of the technology (i.e., standards, throughput, latency, etc.), • Carriers or Solution Provider must develop one stop channel relationships management with Enterprise mobility ecosystem player to offer single, simple and integrated seamless mobile enablement processes to new or existing on/off-premises business applications. 2.4 Benefits of enterprise mobility adoption Till recent past, Enterprise segment created and hosted their IT infrastructure in centralized hosted, monitored and managed closed network environment. Enterprises demonstrated no or little interest in opening their closed network to off net access mechanism to benefit from growing adoption of mobility devices. Then arrived intermediate phase of semi open enterprise access network where enterprise IT administrator got confidence of mobility oriented application access both voice or data centric with email evolution age. It enabled and transformed enterprise network from tightly integrated private hosting to loosely coupled local data hosted with platform aware capabilities to understand the contextual nature of user, applications and networks. The thought process change was initiated and infact enforced due to the changed market dynamics with respect to mobility which redefined strategic and tactical moves of their service, support and opportunity. The Closed IT environment with multiple threads got a facelift through redesigned EAI, Adaptors and open API's to connect the backend system of the enterprise which helped administrator to define or refine centralization and decentralization of local or remote data based on the Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 9
  • 10. E2E Research scenarios. The initiated business and service logic transformed even a closed IT network into open network with closely knitted process and strong security mechanism The slow inroad of mobility mechanism within enterprise segment brought multiple positive implications for both internal and external stakeholder of Enterprise and those are such as: • Enforce rapid, distributed decision making through seamless communication, information access and authorization process and in-turn increases effective and efficient management and operation • Low cost enablement of stronger applications, resources usage and communications to internal and external (partners) user • Improve and Enhance customer, partner service management by creating ongoing, more intimate connections, visibility, support with the same • Enhanced RCA process through instantly sharing and collaborating critical information within customer and partner ecosystem irrespective or locations, presence and devices. • Initiate thought process of heterogeneous network based hosted application to increase more business opportunity. This initiative led to the innovation of SaaS and Cloud computing • Reduces TCA by distributing Opex. and Capex throughout redefined utilization of infrastructure, monitoring, management, resources and training against multiple service or product. • Enable enterprise applications to be transformed from process-centric, to business centric user-aware, device-aware and network-aware centric access. • Acted as a facilitator for the adoption and transformation of unified messaging to unified communications • Enabled enterprise to segregate and develop their network using SaaS, IaaS, PaaS, Security aaS and thereby reduces the cost of network development. They are not forced to define E2E network design before implementing first application. The main advantage is "Grow as you learn and Try out before making an Opinion approach". • Enable Enterprise IT embrace mobility to promote innovation and empower end-user application creation, access and management in a real time mode. The subsection can be concluded as: "Mobility, Collaboration, Consumer, Corporate and Content" (Which can be explained as below) Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 10
  • 11. E2E Research • Improved transparency between the consumer and the business, driving innovation through shared ideas and collaboration. • Consumers instantly get information from businesses from the device and method of choice. All their information is delivered based on their preferences. New applications are created to maximize the interaction across all channels and devices. • Enterprises would enable customer to harness revenue opportunities. Enterprise may guide or offer insight of customer buying patterns and channels of interaction to end customer for the quick decision making. 2.5 Global Level Enterprise Mobility Technology, Usage Trend & Fact Sheet The innovation around mobility catches the interest within enterprise segment to start using mobility components within their IT infrastructure to define new business and service strategies. The first of the innovation which changed the mindset of large enterprises are device agnostic mobile email, IM and web access through WAP browser. The components of enterprise mobility revenue include voice, video, connectivity, messaging. Applications are not considered as part of Enterprise mobility as most of the applications available are consumer centric compared to prosumer centric. The Global level Enterprise Mobility usage Trend’s as analysed by Yankee Group clearly depicts that more than 80% of the US userbase prefers to use mobility devices for email services currently and another 8% addition is expected in next 2 years. Out of 315 million mobility subscriber in US more than 78 million uses enterprise mobility services generating more than $ 80 billion as revenue translating $17 per use DARPU and constitute 45% of the total mobility revenue in US. The US network support next generation data speed and support triple play (Voice, data and video). In coming years, according to some estimate mobile video, Web/Data, P2P, Enterprise horizontal and vertical Applications would be the growth driver in next 5 years generating more than 3.6 Exabyte of data which in turn propel the growth components of backend system to support the same. According to estimate 1.2 billion download generated $2.1Bn revenue which is going to be around 16Bn download and $6.0Bn. This translates to higher adoption of Smartphone and tablet usage by enterprise user in a highlighted geography. Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 11
  • 12. E2E Research In EMEA, out of 1.8 billion mobility user, around 69 million uses enterprise mobility generating $10 DARPU with total revenue comes to $40 billion which constitute to around 11% of the total revenue. Most of the userbase uses unified messaging and low bandwidth oriented applications, one way streaming. The Eastern Europe makes out the most of the userbase as well as revenue with high speed network whereas eastern Europe still supports low data rate oriented network due to the per capita income. West Europe would be the driver of mobile data growth in next 5 years according to estimate. In Latin America, out of 528 million userbase, around 20 million enterprise user using unified messaging to fulill their commitments generating 10% of the total mobility revenue i.e. $ 8Bn translating into $ 5.8 DARPU. The future of enterprise mobility growth would be coming from Latin America with the network up gradation to 3G or 4G network and the availability of replicated service or product portfolio by service providers. In China, out of 849 million plus user, 250 users are using enterprise mobility to generate $40 Bn revenue that translates to around 18% of the total mobility revenue. Mobile video, Video training, Streaming, mHealth, mCommerce, mPayment, mAdvertisement, SCADA, SFA, Unified Communications type of service or applications or products are generating higher growth in revenue and adoption of enterprise mobility The takeaway of the above assessment can be summarized as follows: • Transition and Adoption of Unified Communication from Unified Messaging • Popular Enterprise Mobility Services such as unified messaging, CRM, Financial Service, SFA,SFS got higher recognition as mobility drivers within enterprise as well as a critical technology to drive internal-external growth and efficiency • SoA modules are getting converged into mobility oriented Unified mobility middleware software and security to leverage across heterogeneous mobility network. It helped organization to achieve promised benefits of Enterprise mobility such as reduce cost, management, monitoring, enhanced efficiency and productivity • Focus on centralized Device, Network, Product, User security and access management around unified middleware to extend enterprise level QoS and CoS to enterprise mobility segmented services/products • Definition of enterprise performance benchmark covers four paradigm parameters such as service capabilities, data speeds/ throughput, data service and device. Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 12
  • 13. E2E Research • Triggered innovation towards enterprise wireless data services, ease of activation, account management and device selection score highly under QoS. Performance KPI’s got maximum emphasis given by customer, policy maker and next generation network/applications/service/product innovators • Transition of Enterprise mobility to Everywhere Network Enterprise Mobility is underway through the evolution and adoption of tightly integrated contributing factors such as Connectivity, Content, Collaboration, Context and Commerce. 2.6 India Level Enterprise Mobility Technology, Usage Trend & Fact Sheet • The enterprise mobility userbase in India is slightly more than 12 million users out of total 811 million and around 623 million VLR active mobility user base. The revenue generated by enterprise mobility is around 76 million (Forest and Sullivan) which is expected to increase it to 120 million by FY 15-16 given the higher adoption of smartpbones, tablets and applications. • The early adopters’ of basic Enterprise Mobility solutions are using Email, IM, Alert and remote data access. • Currently 2 % of the total subscriber base belongs to enterprise segment which is expected to grow in low single digit. • Enterprise mobility user generated negligible level of revenue compared to 28.7 billion of total mobility revenue. • Mobile Applications usage and developments are based on On-net access mechanism. In the current year around 500 million application download got executed which generated more than $50 million which is going to increase to 5Bn plus download with more than $400 million revenue. This is only possible due to heavy investment. Currently most of the applications are SMS attached process mechanism which might get upgrade to web access mechanism. • Mobile Video, mTraining, mHealth, mPayment, mGames, Online games and unified tourism, Unified Communications would be the growth drivers. • With more than half trillion SMS message flow, the whole ecosystem of Indian Enterprise mobility is designed around it. Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 13
  • 14. E2E Research • mAlert, mConsumer, mPerformance, mRegistration type of SMS based application would act as driver for Enterprise to slowly start using these services • Android, WM7.0, Open MTK, Symbian and Samsung BADA are in the market leader quadrant and Android is gaining market share. • Enterprise Hosted mobility user prefers to get the hosted application through integrated communications solution provider (CSP) such as mobile operator 3 Industry Static and Dynamic Factors 3.1 Enterprise Mobility Challenges Fact Sheet Enterprise Mobility pre- requisite, drivers, usage pattern points to one generic point of unified network design supporting applications or product or services for both wire line and wireless network. The changing dynamics of industry clearly demonstrated the need of enterprise mobility to be seamless in order management, provisioning, activation, assurance and support of any service round the clock with hundred percent effective and efficient. In order to achieve the changed customer requirements, Enterprises are either moving towards the adoption of enterprise mobility by their own or enforced due to the competitive landscape using the same. In fear of being late to the market, every sector based enterprises are chalking their plan to be within the said space. The different sectors are facing complicated task to deliver unified generic solution applicable to heterogeneous network to enable user access services from different device using multiple delivery model. The process management on the security, data access, and storage still possess discomfort for enterprise to accept the mobility model due to the sensitivity of data or nature of business or recovery model of data or cost associated to it. Some of the challenges are as follows: • Enterprise are targets for viruses, worms and Trojan infections through Convergence of unified (Un)-wireless applications, network and associated device owned or shared by them. The application access through unsecured networks such as home broadband links or public Wi-Fi hotspots. • Employees and partners accessing corporate data via mobile devices, or through secure WAN links, compound security risks given the mode of access and mechanism associated with different technologies Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 14
  • 15. E2E Research • The device sectors are highly dynamics with hundreds of device OEM and multiple device OS compounded with cut throat competition forced OEM to refresh their product portfolio every few quarter which impacts the associated value chain player of Enterprise mobility to validate, integrate and support device on multiple applications, network and security standards. One of the major hurdle of Enterprise mobility adoption is Device limitation & management • Single application interoperable with multiple OS placed in heterogeneous network is not available. Another major challenge is Lack of internal expertise to manage technology • Most of the Enterprise applications that are available on desktops are getting transformed to enable user access through mobile devices. Mobile workers often feel frustrated because they do not have seamless access and authorization. • Managing, Monitoring number of large-scale segregated or consolidated deployment supporting multiple device platforms, information access environment are complex and complicated to achieve secure, monitor, upgrade and refresh management. • Increased and powerful processor oriented device that can incorporate more information lead to must have inbuilt security requirement in order to perform authenticate, authorize secure and control enterprise information flow and mitigate any mismanagement of sensitive information. • Wireless coverage poses challenges for enterprise mobile users who rely on applications that require uninterrupted connection. • The transition to translation of 3G network to public Wi-Fi to corporate WLANs often face problems and require manual intervention by the end-user which may lead to eavesdropping. • Centralized Device, Network, Monitoring and Security with respect to user access management possess challenge given the coverage and speed of wireless network. • Confusing and Manual convergence process for mobility Users to choose between cellular service /Wi-Fi, laptops vs. smart phones, web clients vs. fat clients, and other technologies in order to determine the best way to integrate and access enterprise mobility application seamlessly The takeaway is: The listed challenges created a hesitation among SME sector to initiate a project of mobility enablement even though SME realized the need of the same to maintain the expectation of Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 15
  • 16. E2E Research internal and external stakeholders. The dynamically changing technologies and access platform enabled innovators to offer virtual capacities and enforced transformed components into the mindset of Enterprise Network owners. 3.2 Major Initiatives and Launches in Enterprise Mobility Space The growing adoption or indication of embracing Enterprise Mobility solution set created a competition among solution provider vendor to collaborate in order to offer consolidated single platform multiple vendor product set to create one stop solution. • IBM launched its Mobile Enterprise Services group in 2009 with an investment plan of $800 Million. The purpose of IBM is to develop an ecosystem of Enterprise mobility to define and process Lotus Notes associated with Cloud computing called Blue computing center. • Orange launched FreeMove Alliance in close collaboration with Sybase, which allows enterprises to strike a single agreement with a uniform mobile data price across any of 19 countries. • Verizon Launched E2E enterprise mobility platform with device, data, application, roaming, monitoring and management and competing with AT&T and Sprint Nextel Enterprise Mobility • Telephonica, Vodafone Launched worldwide Seamless Enterprise Connect in 2009 • BT launched Enterprise Mobility platform in 2009 • Airtel India collaborated with SAP to offer Enterprise Mobility solution set through integrated data service offering. • Big OEM players are developing their own Enterprise Solution set ecosystem provider. • Big technology firm with E2E skill-set are putting their weight on preferred standardization specifications. • SAP acquired Sybase in more than $5Bn acquisition to gain control of their iAnywhere Enterprise Mobility platform and immediate dominating position in the segment by combining their mobility solution. • Cisco is developing and offering E2E solution set in Unified communications including collaboration with EMC and increased stake in VMware. Company is also investing million of dollar in next generation router with policy and charging mechanism and can be supported on multiple network Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 16
  • 17. E2E Research • HP acquisition of Palm and commitment of developer eco forum to define applications development mechanism through offered plug-n-play API’s associated with WebOS • IBM acquisition of Enterprise data security solution company BigFix • Oracle acquisition of Sun Microsystems to enter into Enterprise Service delivery platform segment • Google and Amazon focus on Cloud computing. Google recent wish list to hire their own mobile application engineer and develop applications which can be integrated with their Office suit portfolio 3.3 Enterprise Mobility Usages Reality In India The revolution in telecom sector and lower tarrif rates has enabled VAS providers to develop cost effective apps for enterprises. In recent past MNC started actively using communications as a media to connect with internal and external stakeholders that propelled Indian Enterprise especially SME and SMB to start thinking in the mentioned direction. The first direction of adoption was visible through the sudden rise of SMS message based ad-services. However, the realities of Enterprise Mobility adoption in SME’s are the followings • It acts as standalone fireworks by offering or solving specific application or business need. In a generic way it’s a solution which can be reused to create specific application such as wireless e-mail access, field service environment • Extensibility mechanism for other application and services is not incorporated within Mobile architectures and platform • It lacks stringent policy management for user, device and network for seamless access management with security • Currently SME implementation decision is based on technology and solution centric as against the demand of user centric implementation • Lack of visibility and control over user device and access management. Most of the data transfer and synchronization is loosely coupled and creates major concern regarding information security • The skeleton Enterprise mobility definition and implementation by SME is due to the complex architecture, service logics and cost associated with full fledged implementation of Enterprise mobility and associated management cost Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 17
  • 18. E2E Research 3.4 Conclusion Based on the above mentioned points, Enterprise is not willing to open their network due to the concern regarding security, data and privacy and at the same time would like to exploit the advantage of mobility services. It is advisable to initiate basic product positioning using SMS based applications, alerts or developed product to support their external and internal stakeholder with respect to product positioning, competitive mitigation, customer awareness, customer support, RCA solutions, employee management to gain the confidence during phase 1 and subsequently enhance the solution set through demonstration of vendors capabilities regarding their understanding and expertise in handling converged network, applications, products, security. It is also very important to highlight that " None of the customer would like to accept their weakness on the security side but raise security concern to short down the ideas". To counter customer objections, the discussion should be on the Accessibility, Availability, Reachability, Trustworthiness and Universal. The above mentioned phase 1 products can be offered by EM-VAS to Business as well as Consumer through On-net and Off-net network respectively. 3.5 Annexure Enterprise Mobility unplugged Indian Perspective Page 18
