  • 1. Police System in India PRESENTATION BY- ABHINAV , AMAN , RAKESH ANAND, KRISHNAPAL , RIZWANA , YASASVI.
  • 2. WHAT IS POLICE ?  The word ”POLICE” comes from Latin politia ,meaning “citizenship, administration, civil polity”.  Police force is a constituted body of persons empowered by the state to enforce the law , protect property, and limit civil disorder.  Duties and responsibilities: 1) Preserve public order. 2) Investigate crimes. 3) Maintain a feeling of security in community.
  • 3. HISTORY OF POLICE IN INDIA  Ancient times (guards of kings).  “POLICE ACT 1861” by the British empire.  Contemporary India.
  • 4. BENEFITS OF POLICE SYSTEM  Prevent crime.  Domestic peace and tranquility.  Meet community needs.  Security of the country.  Enforcing and supporting laws.
  • 5. FLAWS IN POLICE SYSTEM  Prone to corruption.  Failure to register crimes.  Delay or refusal to investigate.  Poor infrastructure.  Inadequate training.  Inefficient deployment of personnel.
  • 6. Examples Misuse of power by politicians. Janmaitri Suraksha Program -Kerala.
  • 7. Problems & Solutions  Working under corrupt politicians.  Insufficient resources.  Constables: inappropriate working environment , low-pay scale, at most promoted to assistant sub- inspector level  Implementation of law given by supreme court (PIL 1996).  Modern equipments, contingency fund.  Ex-Janmaitri program. single level entry / enhanced facilities for constables.
  • 8.  Lack of women population in police force  Lack of faith of public in police.  Ex-janmaitri program.  30% reserved seats for women in all police stations.  Innovative schemes/programs. Problems & Solutions
