In plastic surgery, there are often several ways to address a cosmetic issue, but in most cases, one way is superior to all the rest –
It’s your Surgeon’s job to know what the best option is.

Shortcuts, Gimmicks & Tricks

Shortcuts: Non-Invasive ≠ Long Lasting
Examples: “Weekend facelifts”, “lifestyle facelifts”, etc.
“Achieve instantaneous perfection” … Really?
Healing takes time – Lasting results require healing
Especially when it comes to cosmetic surgery
The patient has to be committed to the procedure.
You need to follow post-op care instructions
If you want to have a facelift, there is going to be 2-3 weeks of healing involved. It’s not overnight. Surgeons who give the impression that it isn’t a big deal should not be taken at their word.

Gimmicks: The Oprah Effect
Why the ‘latest’ media darling isn’t always the greatest or safest.
“Thread Lift” - aka single stitch “weekend” facelift
Thermage - non-surgical skin tightening using radio frequency
“SmartLipo” - aka ‘laser liposuction’ for large areas
Breast Augmentation through the belly-button (“scar free!”)
“Twilight Surgery” - aka using local anesthesia for major procedures like liposuction

Tricks: Limited Post-Procedure Care
Salesman Surgeon vs Artist-Engineer: You should never feel like you’re being “sold” during any part of the consultation. Good salesmen focus on the sell. Good MDs focus on the result.
What does their personal fee cover in terms of pre & post-op care?? In my practice:
Patients can call me anytime (especially after surgery). Our phone system forwards to my cell phone.
After surgery, I offer patients as many follow-up visits as they need or want at no additional cost.
Great surgeons provide great care before & afteryour procedure.
If there are any complications after surgery, what is your surgeon’s revision policy? Does he still expect you to pay his personal fee?
