Benefits of VMware vCenter Plugin Get deep-level detail from Dell servers for inventory, monitoring and alerting — all from within vCenter Automatically perform Dell recommended vCenter actions based on Dell hardware alerts Integrate directly with hardware alerts with vCenter Alarms Receive proactive renewal alerts from Dell before your warranty expires and access the Dell hardware warranty page online
Opinion: Jonathan Great Product that simplifies the deployment of virtual machines Ease of applying firmware updates, bios updates and low level server updates Major improvement from using the older methods (boot discs, USC or LifeCycle Controller Future: Would like to see the plugin integrated into a “chip” on the motherboard instead being installed on virtual host Future: Pricing – Would be great to have the vCenter Plugin “wrapped” into the cost of the server, easier to license
Opinion: Matt Single pane of information of physical server Firmware/BIOS versions, Warranty info, service tag all in one place – don’t have to log into OMSA, iDRAC vCenter becoming hub for majority of environment from 10,000ft view Great UI Bad interface can be undermining of good products Improvements I’d like to see Deploy to imbedded SD card – currently can only deploy hypervisor to SATA, SAS, SSD hard drives Built-in space for local repository (a la KACE), remove need for external CIFS/NFS share Pricing – beating the dead horse – 3 for free, 5 pay, 10 pay, etc.
