  • Before we start with the data center transformation story, take a step back and present the audience with a few minutes on Dell’s Strategy. Before jumping to Dell’s strategy, outline the key things we looked at and the customer survey results we saw when discussing what’s driving them today. The top 3 themes we heard from our customers is that they want to leverage the enormous opportunities presented by Cloud, Big Data and Mobility, however the opportunity is locked up due to legacy systems, cost constraints and performance slow downs.Forrester Research predicted that the tablets' worldwide installed base would continue to skyrocket. The research firm also said that by 2017, the global users of tablets would reach more than 900 million, up from 2010's 15 million users.Pulsepoint/Dell research in April 2013 – IT Decision makersIn 2010 the volume of digital information created and duplicated in a year will reach 1.2 zettabytes, according to new data from IDC.What the heck is a zettabyte? It’s equivalent to about 1 million petabytes, 1 trillion terabytes and 1 quadrillion gigabytes. In short, it’s an almost unimaginably large number. The annual Digital Universe report is an effort to visualize the enormous amount of data being generated by our increasingly digital lives. Here’s an example: By 2020, IDC projects annual data generation will reach 35 zettabytes. That’s enough data to fill a stack of DVDs reaching halfway to Mars.A. Note that the Pulsepoint/Dell study indicated that 46% of todays corporate data storage happens outside of traditional IT. 4. Forrester/Dell TAP study, October, 201343% of ITDM respondents cited security and privacy as their r top concern with cloud, more than @X the nearest concern, which was software license management). It is also the #1 selection criteria for cloud service providers at 63%. Clearly, IT and business need it secure to run production workloads and the industry needs to address this concern.
  • The Transformation Journey. Technology gains continue to enable competitive advantages for those organizations that are positioned to effectively adopt them. It is an ongoing journey and we are all on it together. However, we are all in different places. No one has an identical data center and we have all arrived at our current state from different paths. Dell understands this. We know that each client’s current state and future goals are unique. This understanding drives our approach and offering. We take the time to understand where you are today and provide solutions based on your most effective path forward. That is why we offer flexible, open, end-to-end solutions that leverage your current assets to achieve incremental gains at pace with the demands of your business. Objective number 1 – Scottish Fire and Rescue – finance and billing system for the national fire/first responder system + website and intranet servicesRestructured fire servicelaunches with multi-cloud ITScottish Fire & Rescue Service successfully unites country’s fire andrescue teams with cloud-based finance system installed in just six weeksChallenge SFRS needed to offer its 9,000 personnel a reliable finance system from day one of the service launch, while work was still progressing on developing a wide area network (WAN). • Our recent Forrester TAP study revealed that:While 71% of companies would prefer to deal with just one cloud vendor….62% have already adopted more than one cloud platform AND53% are already planning to leverage more than one vendor...What is driving this?As cloud computing becomes more pervasive, companies will need to deal with more than “the cloud.” In reality, they will have to manage multiple clouds. That’s because they will need to use different clouds for different purposes, and there is now a cloud solution for nearly every application and IT service. As cloud technologies evolve, the range of choices will only increase. The future will be a situation of “cloud sprawl,” if you will. The phenomenon of “shadow IT” is also adding to that sprawl. Often, end users bypass IT and go directly to an outside service provider to set up cloud accounts for application development and testing and various other short-term projects. This gives them the access to the cloud that they need to work quickly and efficiently. But it also means that IT lacks the visibility required to manage costs and ensure effective governance and security. The result is an emerging multi-cloud reality, in which IT needs to manage internal private clouds, including infrastructure and cloud clients, along with various external Software-as-a-Service offerings and public and private managed clouds.Customer Examples:Examples abound - Scottish fire and rescue – private cloud for where compliance/ownership/control mattered most, public cloud for web and intranet (very simple example)Netflix – private cloud for high performance services, public for newer/ under development onesNFL fantasy football example – use Dell as a secondary provider to their main in-house cloud so that our weekend fantasy action never, ever goes down. At Dell we believe cloud should be about choice to enable your unique business objective….The business objective is reflected in either a business application of full business service being offered to external customers and/or employeesBusiness applications demand specific infrastructure and delivery capabilities to run reliably in production – often in the form of specific cloud infrastructures, platforms and partnersAs business apps are added, grow and expand, this results in a set of cloud types and suppliers - a “multi-cloud reality”, or an ecosystem of “specialized” apps and cloudsMultiple clouds aren’t an ‘accident’, they are often a deliberate & optimized set of infrastructures that are dictated by the business & app requirements
  • Our Pan-Dell Cloud efforts are focused on three areas: private cloud, multi-cloud management and supplying cloud builders.Private Cloud: We are helping customers build, use and control private clouds with holistic solutions from the infrastructure to the device with specific software and services to meet each customer’s unique needs.Multi-Cloud Management: We’re helping customers simplify, deploy and manage their diverse, multi-cloud environments with the Dell Multi-Cloud Manager, formerly Enstratius, which currently supports 20 cloud platforms.Cloud Builders: Dell is supplying cloud builders with the hardware, software and services to build, deploy, operate and manage reliable clouds optimized for their customers’ needs. We also deliver public cloud through the Cloud Partner Program to better serve our customers, giving them more choice and flexibility to select the partner, platform and model that is right for their business. Partners include: Joyent, ScaleMatrix and ZeroLag in the US; Peer 1 in Canada; Six Degrees Group in the UK; Quadria in France. Our strategy and differentiationspecifically centers around Multi-Cloud Management – giving customers choice, simplified management, and unobtrusive governance of the clouds they want to use – whether public, private or hybrid, with a single could or multiple clouds. This is a long-term, evolving vision incorporating pan-Dell products and servicesWe are skating in front of the puck to best serve our customers – realizing an environment with many clouds is where the industry and our customers are headedSeven months after the Enstratius acquisition, Dell-Multi Cloud Manager is on track to a 24-month build out of complete end-to-end solutionNext generation UI now in betaIntegrations with Active System Manager, Foglight, and Dell One Identity ManagerNew service catalog, workflow, and policyDell is building a complete, yet modular, solution allowing customers to choose alternative components according to their needs and objectives.
  • Users/customers interact with the enterprise via applications/services and their apis. They are projected onto the infrastructure as a series of workloads, each class of which requires different performance, reliability and SLA (email vs. HR vs. trading or patient monitoring application)At the core is a Multi-cloud management solution that maps the applications/ services across a variety of infrastructures in a policy driven way. With out this mapping and ‘service governor’, you’d have a bunch of silos, with it, you can coordinate access to apps, infrastructures by criticality, user groups, costs, etc. A great story Nike2. will find a couple more

  • If we land the new partnerships, replace one of these with the brag: visionary MQ. Strength of ecosystem.
  • Dell’s cloud vision recognizes that our customers will have mixture of IT and different requirements depending on the size, complexity and type of industry they are in. Our goal is to use cloud technologies and practices to make our customer’s lives better, not gratuitously move them to a specific type of cloud. As such, we provide different ways to consume and mix cloud. Build. With private or on-premise cloud, applications & workloads stay on-premise. For many organizations, private cloud is necessary to meet the regulatory compliance, governance, and security requirements of their business and/or industry. With on-premise cloud, IT can drive consolidation across branches, regions and global offices freeing up data center space and offering a consistent experience for the workforce. Cloud done right should not be a “rip and replace” or be disruptive to your organization. It should leverage your organizations infrastructure and ITIL processes and should be a logical technological progression.Use. as- a service offerings is helping to meet business needs: Organizations with seasonal or cyclical demands benefit in cost and time saving from having to provision, and manage infrastructure. For startup business or for those needing to ramp up quickly for a new product or service introduction, public cloud is an excellent alternative And finally for your mobile workforce, offering desktop-as-a-service allows them to access their data and applications anytime, anywhere and from any device. This can increase job satisfaction and productivity. Control. Automating, managing & monitor your multi-clouds. The right software and tools can lead to greater flexibility and scalability then the current rigid legacy framework provides. It can help improve IT responsiveness and workload delivery, reduce VM sprawl, pool infrastructure, improve governance & reduce management cost and security risks.
