  • (KL starts off…)The goal of a good UC & C solution is to connect people to each other & to data, allowing interaction of people & information.
  • KL – a new generation of millennials is entering the workforce & they have expectations of being 100% connected, anytime, anywhere
  • (KL handoff to Luke here… )Full-time telecommuters…the total number of telecommuters has been increasing, so the actual number of full-time telecommuters has grown from 3.1 million in2007 to 5.0 million in 2011, an annual rate of 2.2%
  • A number of factors are driving organizations to change & evolve…
  • (KL takes it here…)Variety of problems from cost to access, business to technical…
  • (besides the dynamics of the org/end user technical & business challenges, there’s the complexity of creating & supporting the infrastructure that hosts all the communications & collaboration apps…)You have the challenge of protecting, balancing & delivering the data on both LAN & WAN side. This example uses an architecture typical of 1000 user lync / exchange env… it can get complex pretty quickly.
  • Dell’s Vision of the UC&C Model – you have access to all these tools, historically separate – they don’t talk to each other & require much $$ and redundancy of effort to keep it all going… unifying these tools & applications, under a single stack, with existing skills & technologies, will help streamline your organizational productivity, communications, overall operations & administration.
  • (Luke takes it here… day in the life – managing a large territory of 130+ countries… )Boost workforce productivity- Solutions to connect remote office & telework employees - Familiar tools from MS in a single solution for: Email, calendar, video, voice, IM, voicemail, data & online mtgs-User experience – launch everything from OutlookCreate a dynamic workplace to increase customer-facing time- Lync for more effective real-time meetings Pre-scheduling & mtg links no longer requiredSave moneyCost effective online collaborationVoice & data sharing the same wire reduces cost / complexityImprove efficiencyVoice & data sharing the same wire reduces cost / complexityDrive innovation to grow business
  • KL hereExchange is the core of your enterprise for email & calendar, while Lync provides the live communications aspect…3 main capabilities: IM and Presence, Conferencing, VoiceThree Main CapabilitiesInstant Messaging and PresenceConversation managementFederationChoice or clients: web access, mobile devices, Mac, OutlookGroup ChatPresence in Office, SharePoint, other ApplicationsConferencingMultiparty (3+) PC Audio/VideoAd hoc collaborationDesktop SharingApplication SharingOnline meetingsRich and web clientsPSTN audio conferencing in Lync Server (on-premises only)Voice Call phones and Mobiles (PC to PSTN)Forward, transfer Simultaneous ring another numberSingle number across mobile, desk phone, PC Exchange Voice Mail IntegrationRequires Telco partner to connect you to the public phone network (Phone numbers, PSTN termination)Three Main PillarsReduce costs through converged communicationsAdopt Quickly through ease of useEase deployment through interoperability and extensibility
  • How do we know there’s real savings & efficiency to be had? Because we’ve done it… Dell has implemented one of the largest MS UC deployments worldwide, in our own environment. With a largely remote & global workforce, we benefitted immediately in cost savings & worker productivity. We use a Lync solution within Dell with over 100,000 employees using Lync for IM and conferencing. We are adopting enterprise voice & soft-phones in a slower region by region implementation (the last bullet point). Many best practices were developed via our own implementation, and that has translated to our customers in how we design & deploy solutions.
  • (luke …) People are more connected than ever, and the ability to leverage common connectivity is shifting to “online”…When you think about the possibilities of who you can reach, and how you can connect, it’s important to look at the global broadband situation – people are capable of using digital communications, so why not do it.
  • Let’s look at a simple telecom cost comparison… typical business calls (daytime) & duration (30-60 min), your costs are upwards of 18 pence/min (or $.24/min U.S.) – most projects involve multiple one hour meetings. In this case, Luke and I probably logged upwards of 20 hours on the line between DC and the UK.2.6p/min = 4 cents/min (US)12.6p/min = 20 cents/min (US)18.3p/min = 24 cents/min (US)
  • (KL here…)How you get there matters. Get the basics right with intelligent infr, matched to the application, and take it to the next level & wrap next gen service mgmt around it…
  • When you’re talking about enterprise efficiency for your applications, you have to start with smart building blocks. One size doesn’t fit all, and Dell’s optimized enterprise solutions combine best of breed server, storage & networking in DIY or converged architectures. You don’t lose any of the capability of the individual components if you only implement a portion of the stack – but when you look to a converged solution like the Active System portfolio, you get all that & a whole lot more (in terms of pre-engineering & integration of hw/sw & mgmt tools, automation & simplification, etc.)We create optimized building blocks for applications based on reference architectures & MS and Dell best practices. All of this combines to deliver the highest level SLA for your application env.
  • The foundational applications for Dell’s unified communications and collaboration is the powerful suite of MS Exchange / Lync /Sharepoint. But the applications alone don’t deliver everything you need – you need a platform that enables all the power of these tools from desktop to datacenter… Features:Integrated email, voicemail, phone, messaging, and conferencingReal-time document and application sharingA common interface for all unified communications devicesBenefits:Stay connected with email, calendar and contacts on the PC, phone and webEmpower anytime, anywhere information sharing and collaboration through business communities Unite voice, IM, audio, video, and web conferencing into a richer, enterprise contextual format Microsoft ExchangeDell’s Microsoft Exchange reference architectures and repeatable consulting services ensure your email and calendaring platforms based on Exchange 2010 are optimized, flexible, efficient, and secure.Lower costs, simplifyadministration, protect communications, and boost productivity.Easily tame workloads to improve business performance, operational efficiency, and stabilityPowerEdge servers provide increasedmemory, processing, and storage capabilities tooptimize Exchange 2010 features for complianceand security.Better email performance for larger mailboxes• Email archiving and more powerful retentionpolicies• Automated rights management protection ofemail• Powerful multi-mailbox search UI for discoveryMore resiliency of data centers• Single platform for High Availability & DisasterRecovery• Role-based Administration and User Self-ServiceTCO & ROI performance• Faster ROI from defined architecture modelsand extensive mailbox migration experience• Lower TCO due to low energy consumption, virtualization and centralized managementMicrosoft SharePointDell’s SharePoint 2010 solutions provide you with a simple, quick, and robust deployment of a manageable platform that is designed from day one to enable collaboration and unlock the hidden teams in your company.Simple, quick, robust deployment to a manageable platform.Scalability and flexible platform enables improved prioritization of workloads to prevent sprawl. In Microsoft® SharePoint® environments where the keyfunctions are data and web serving, lots of memoryand I/O flexibility are most important. The PowerEdgeportfolio provides superb choices for SharePointbecause of the scalable memory and PCIe slot density.Better collaboration and improved productivity• Share documents in real-time with live-meeting,no matter where you and your team are• Find colleagues faster• Leverage existing application knowledgeImproved messaging• Single storage repository for all messages• Common interface for all messaging devices• The right communication at the right time with theright resourcesReduced travel and conferencing costs• Live meeting with remote access• Video conferencing• Single interface and reduced PBX costsMicrosoft LyncMicrosoft Lync is an enterprise-ready platform. With Lync, users can keep track of their contacts’ availability; send an IM; start or join an audio, video, or web conference; or make a phone call—all through a consistent, familiar interface.  Microsoft Lync 2010 gives users real-time presence information—including photos, availability, and location—and enhanced instant messaging (IM) to help them connect more efficiently and effectively.Lync makes it easy for users to create, moderate, and join pre-planned and on-the-fly audio, video, and web meetings with people inside and outside the organization.Lync combines the telephony features of a traditional IP PBX with IM and conferencing to improve communication and lower costs. Lync Server 2010 must be running on-premises to use Enterprise voice.Lync was built to work hand-in-hand with Microsoft Office for a consistent, familiar experience.Lync makes communicating easier and more engaging by delivering a consistent experience across computers, browsers, telephones, and mobile phones. The PowerEdge portfolio has therange of servers needed to fit the various roles in aunified communication environment. For example, the PowerEdge 4-socket servers are an excellentchoice for database roles where high availabilityis crucial—like phone and messaging databases.PowerEdge 2-socket server is suited for audio andvideo conferencing—because of its high memoryand bandwidth capacities.Cost savings• Cost savings from reduced travel, communications, and IT expenses• By unifying formerly disparate types ofcommunications into one integrated solution,IT resources and security are maximizedImproved productivity and communication• By improving individual productivity and teamcollaboration, business objectives can be metfaster than ever before• Communication is seamless and robust with aunified user experienceOptimized resource utilization• Automatically locate the best resource toanswer a question, approve a request, orperform a task
  • Multiple ways to consume the architecture and services to help you figure out the right path for you2 approaches to getting the “building blocks” right: (and services to help you if you don’t know which is the right path)Both include using System Center (or your choice mgmt framework) to manage & automate the UC environment.1. DIY - “pick your own” stack – Windows Server Hyper-V & System Center with Dell Servers, Networking and Storage, with services assist on aspects of architecture & design, as needed; 2. Converged solutions: Active Systems & vStarts - pre-engineered and pre-built virtualization solutions; pre-racked, pre-cabled, pre-validated and pre-configured; includes initial deployment services
  • The “do it yourself” approach allows you to add net new components, or refresh just the aspects of the solution that you need.If the solution you want differs from the pre-integrated solutions, you can create your own standard building block using best of breed server, storage networking & mgmt tools.Dell also provides integration of phone & end-user devices: vdi solutions, wyse clients, end user phones & headsets, as well as Dell’s new touchscreen Win8 tablets & laptops like the XPS & the Latitude10 bring the user experience to a whole new level
  • So what’s the advantage of “pre-integrated” infrastructure / mgmt solutions?Instant virtual infrastructure:One rack, one management tool, one point of contact, pre-optimized, pre-tested, Vmware or Hyper-V readyEverything included: Hardware, software, management tools and deployment servicesRemoves the work: Easy to buy, no research, easy to deployFrees your staff for more mission critical tasks: No additional trainingQuick time to productivity: Deploy in hours, not weeksWorks with what you already have and easily scalableOne rack, wired & ready to deploy from the factory: 50, 100 or 200 VMsOne tool to manage entire virtualized solution: routine maintenance, storage, and operationsOne point of contact for entire solution lifecycleServices included: Expert and rapid deploymentPre-optimized, pre-tested and predictable: Balanced, certified, sized, configured, fully tested & certified Virtualization-ready: Includes plug-ins for vCenter or Microsoft Server 2008 Rx2 Lowers the cost per VM: No need toconfigure and optimize a custom solution piecemealScalable & modular: Growth from one solution & one vendorNo specialized training, skills or processes neededExpertise built in: Industry-standard management processes, industry best practices and real-world designs included
  • Here’s a great example of integrated sharepoint solution – optimized & scalableGain the value of sharepoint for document mgmt, intranet & internet sites, application development, content governance, BI & Data insights = all on an optimized infrastructure platform.
  • Quality Of Service (QOS) is KeyDell’s Force10 solution has distinct advantage when it comes to QOS. - Huge buffers reduce the chance of retransmissions, by default reducing latency;- Force10 switches are not oversubscribed – we provide line speed, per port (unlike cisco)Likewise, load balancers are part of MS best practices for sharepoint ref architectures, and some of our competitors have completely gotten out of that business. We partner w/ industry leaders like F5 for load balancing, and will help you optimize where you need it.
  • Let’s go back to that complex topology we saw earlier – Dell can help you the infrastructure that hosts all the communications & collaboration apps…Dell provides the network assessments that help figure out bottlenecks & risks. We can apply the right solution to fix the problematic area to help optimize the environment for QOS. Here’s how/where the solutions potentially fit in:DeliverForce 10line rate, non-oversubscribed 10Gbit Ethernet switches provide massive bandwidthHuge buffers designed to reduce latency (by preventing retransmits)Scale out architecture so you grow when YOU need to Powerconnect –WWireless campus networking solution for optimized end-user experienceBalanceF5 “Big IP”Load balances & routes traffic efficiently based on transmission typeOptimizes both LAN and WAN side trafficSilverpeak “NX Appliance”Separates & optimizes all IP applicationsProtectSonicwall email security applianceSonicwall “Supermassive”Protects data inside & outside the firewall
  • Now let’s examine where we’ve helped customers gain productivity & success(Luke taking over here… covering customer stories & services sections…)Company - Europcar South Africa (global affiliate - National Car Rental)Industry - Travel, Hospitality & TourismCountry - South AfricaWebsite - europcar.co.zaBusiness need:Europcar South Africa wanted to drive growth while reducing costs so it looked to create a virtualized IT infrastructure that could support unified communications. Solution:The company worked closely with Dell Consulting Services, which helped implement virtualized Dell servers and storage and created a foundation for unifying communications.Benefits:Major project designed and implemented in just nine monthsImproved IT performance with around 46 per cent fewer serversCustomer gains platform ready for unified communicationsEnd-users gain access to new servers in 45 minutes with virtualizationEasier management increases IT productivity by around 85 per cent
  • UK based agency that implemented UC for their call center…
  • (KL picks up here… going beyond the technical aspects of hw/sw, summarizing the “why dell piece” …)We’ve talked about the need for unified communications, the power of the MS tools & the importance of the underlying infrastructure… but why pick Dell as your partner in this?WHY dell vs cisco or others… 3 powerful tools vs 15Don’t introduce new tools & perceived simplicity because of hype… Would you ever replace your entire applications platform because your changing out your phone system?? That’s what some competitors are asking you to do.Dell is the solution provider that:Offers a Single Point of Contact for Hardware, Software, Services and SupportSupplies customers with a Unified Communications solution end-to-end (hw/sw/services – desktop to datacenter)Allows customers to gradually replace or enhance legacy infrastructure in a modular fashionCan supply the right-sized solution, regardless of customer sizeHas a global footprint and delivery capabilitySpecializes in Voice on the Microsoft platformHas custom-development capabilities for CEBP & UCMAWe are providing specific support services for Lync Voice customersKL wkg - summary of WHY dell vs cisco or others… 3 powerful tools vs 15Don’t introduce new tools & perceived simplicity because of hype… KL real life narrative re: phone system… Dell is the organization that:Offers a Single Point of Contact for Hardware, Software, Services and SupportCan supply customers with all hardware for a Unified Communications solution end-to-endAllows customers to gradually replace or enhance legacy infrastructure in a modular fashionHave our own optimized devicesCan supply the customer all software licenses regardless of customer sizeHas a global footprint and delivery capabilitySpecializes in Voice on the Microsoft platformHas custom-development capabilities for CEBP & UCMAWe are providing specific support services for Lync Voice customers
