  • Dell has a lot of great values and capabilities.  Our brand, our Global Distribution, and our strong balance sheet are just some examples.  And we continue to make core investments. For example, we'll spend over $100M last year alone in building IT solutions and tools and literally billions of dollars on acquisitions.But over the past few years our customers have asked us to provide something more -- a higher level integration or solution.  And they have asked us to directly and uniquely address their most critical issues. In a word, our customers' problem is complexity across the boardThey have farms of servers and storageThey have inefficient, hierarchal networksThey're struggling with a broad array of software tools to try to manage this complexity – most of which are not equipped to deal in a virtualized world, let alone in a hybrid on premise and cloud world.  And they are dealing with a heterogeneous set of end user devices being brought to work today by their employeesTo help them get to the ideal next state, our strategy is to provide our customers with the vision of the Agile efficient and scalable environment of the future. But as we know this is a difficult journey.  So we're evolving to meet these new needs.   • The next phase is about making IT the engine of growth for the broader organization, through higher levels of efficiency, agility, and cost management. We’re seeing more INCREASING USE OF THE CLOUD and a seamless blend of on-premise and off-premise or cloud computing We’ve seen the relentless advance of Moore’s law making computing, data and networking resources vastly more powerful Now we are seeing these capabilities physically converged and virtualized both within the enterprise and to the public cloud.  The challenge is to manage the applications so that they can be securely and seamlessly deployed to new platforms or to the cloud without disrupting the business.85% of businesses have said their organizations will use cloud tools moderately to extensively in the next 3 years. And at Dell, we’ve an example of efficiency in the modern data center – helping our customers seamlessly integrate into the cloud. What does the customer need to efficiency use the cloud?A standardized and centralized method of viewing the entire systems environment, both on premise and in the cloudTo maximize the economics of their infrastructure with cost and regulations as key factorsAnd to optimize  resources - gaining better service levels and increasing IT agility  while holding the line on costs and complexity   We’re seeing an EXPLOSION OF DATA:  Data is everywhere, so the challenge for businesses large and small is to gain insights from increasing volumes of data more rapidly, using standardized hardware and software that doesn’t require a PhD in computer science to operate.  The problem is that information is scattered everywhere and growing rapidly.  Customer have to contend with:Big DataThe volume of dataThe velocity or rate of acceleration of dataThe variety of sources the data is coming fromAnd the potential value that all this data could bring to the enterprise are a very large component of our collective challenge and opportunityIn just over 10 years, we’ll see the volume of data stored go from .8 zettabytes to 35.What do our customers need here?Access to data using tools that give them insights to help drive decisions – they shouldn’t need to hire a PhD to do this. This requires that IT has the tools to implement a holistic solution that encompasses all device categories without compromising key elements like securityDid you know that from 2010 to 2015 we will see a 5X increase in the use of smartphones and tablets at work?
