  • In England, district and parish council elections will take place in 2011. Counties, including single tier (unitary) counties (33 authorities): All councillors are elected once every four years, in whole council elections. There was an election in 2009, and the next elections will be in 2013. London boroughs (32 authorities): All councillors are elected once every four years, in whole council elections. There will next be elections in 2010 and 2014. Metropolitan districts (36 authorities): Councillors are elected for four-year terms by thirds; that is, at each election, a third of the councillors are elected. Elections are held every year except in years when there are county council elections in the rest of England. There will therefore be elections in 2010, 2011, and 2012.
