Tendency to choose either cheaper, affordable food or “healthy” food;

Conference “Decreasing obesity and the encouragement of physical activity in Lithuania: problems and possible solutions”
organized by Ministry of Health (2006);
adopted resolution to launch new programs of physical activity in schools.

The National N utrition Center had established the Public Health Educational Department
This center has assigned the Public Relations Bureau under its auspices;
Schools had expressed need for modern education tools on healthy nutrition and physical activity.

Creating a group in charge of implementation of this Program;

Project goal
To form skills of healthy n u t ri t ion and physical activity amongst youth and their families while employing synergy of food producers and governmental institutions.

Project tasks
To introduce principles of healthy nutrition and physical activity to school communities;
To present the guidebook for teachers “Education of healthy nutrition and physical activity at schools” and to motivate them to use it in their daily schedule;
To initiate attractive education methods for youth;
To promote the topic of healthy nutrition and physical activity in media, particularly through the project activities.

Project framework
The project is designed for Vilnius and Kaunas region;
Target audience – 6-7 graders;
the school year of 2009 – 2010;
Project duration – 12 months.

Project target groups
Educators: school principals teachers;
Parents : chairpersons of schools boards;
Public health experts;
General public;

Motives to take part
Fun activities designed for youth;
Educators raise their qualification;
Schools receive guidebooks;
Schools receive extra scores for their certification;
Final event for most active participants of the project.

Achievements and plans 2008 – 2009 m.
- Partnership with Ministries of Health and Education and Science, media:
Daily newspapers “Panevezio balsas” and “ Gimtasis Roki s kis“, journal “Sveikas z mogus”.
Situation analysis : survey on schoolchildren healthy lifestyle habits in Panevezys region.
- Project presentation: 7 seminars and press conference
- Implementation of the project :
Guidebook “Education of well-balanced n utritio n and physical activity at school” for the teachers;
Publication of booklet for youth.
Preparation of regulations for 2 contest for schools:
“ My dream break” and “ Healthiad a” ;
19 schools commemorated Europe’s Healthy N utrition Day .

FB present s the project plan and yearly budget to donors board ;

Incentives for donors
Healthy consumer and culture of healthy lifestyle is being nurtured;
Participation of representatives of Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education and Science will encourage trust amongst the government and food producers;
While communicating the project to target audience, project donors will be publicly presented as socially responsible businesses ;
Project communication through various channels and activities will give the donor new possibilities for corporate communication.

Project management – 38 000 Lt;
External communication – 28 000 Lt;
Total: 144 000 Lt;

Project partners commitment
Providing at least 1000 LTL per month to the project impl e mentation ;
Product brands should not be communicated during the project.
