  • 2. What is clarify?
    • Clarify is when you stop to make the sure the meaning of the text is clear to the reader.
    • Clarify is when you use various strategies to figure out the meaning of the text.
  • 3. What is monitor?
    • Monitor is when you stop to make sure you understand what you are reading.
    • Monitor is very similar to questioning but monitor focuses on making sure you understand.
  • 4. When do you monitor/clarify a text?
    • As a reader, you can monitor/clarify a text DURING reading.
    • As a reader, you can monitor/clarify a text AFTER reading.
    • In other words, monitor/clarify the text during and after reading.
  • 5. How do you monitor/clarify?
    • Ask yourself is what you are reading makes sense.
    • If it does not, re-read it!
    • Look at the pictures for clues.
    • Keep reading for context clues.
    • Ask a friend.
  • 6. Questions to monitor/clarify a text?
    • What is happening in the story?
    • What clues have led you to think that?
    • Does that make sense?
    • Does this text remind you of anything you already know?
  • 7. Your turn to monitor/clarify the text.
    • Smells of Summer There are certain things in summer That smell real nice to me The moss and ferns and woodsy things I like especially
    • The grassy lawn just freshly cut The fragrant stacks of hay The clean outdoors when it has rained The salty ocean spray-
