  2. 2. What is clarify? <ul><li>Clarify is when you stop to make the sure the meaning of the text is clear to the reader. </li></ul><ul><li>Clarify is when you use various strategies to figure out the meaning of the text. </li></ul>
  3. 3. What is monitor? <ul><li>Monitor is when you stop to make sure you understand what you are reading. </li></ul><ul><li>Monitor is very similar to questioning but monitor focuses on making sure you understand. </li></ul>
  4. 4. When do you monitor/clarify a text? <ul><li>As a reader, you can monitor/clarify a text DURING reading. </li></ul><ul><li>As a reader, you can monitor/clarify a text AFTER reading. </li></ul><ul><li>In other words, monitor/clarify the text during and after reading. </li></ul>
  5. 5. How do you monitor/clarify? <ul><li>Ask yourself is what you are reading makes sense. </li></ul><ul><li>If it does not, re-read it! </li></ul><ul><li>Look at the pictures for clues. </li></ul><ul><li>Keep reading for context clues. </li></ul><ul><li>Ask a friend. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Questions to monitor/clarify a text? <ul><li>What is happening in the story? </li></ul><ul><li>What clues have led you to think that? </li></ul><ul><li>Does that make sense? </li></ul><ul><li>Does this text remind you of anything you already know? </li></ul>
