  • 4. MEANING OF A FRACTION When an object is divided into equal parts, each part is called a fraction of the object. This circle is divided into 4 equal parts. One of the 4 equal parts which is separated is written as ΒΌ and named as one-fourth.
  • 5. Fraction has 2 numbers. Number above the line is called NUMERATOR and the number below the line is called DENOMINTOR. Ex. In fraction 1/8 1 is numerator and 8 is denominator.
  • 6. EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS
    • Two or more fractions whose lowest term is same are called equivalent fractions.
  • 7. LIKE FRACTIONS
      • Fractions having same denominators are called like fractions.
  • 8. UNLIKE FRACTIONS
      • Fractions having different denominators are called unlike fractions.
  • 9. UNIT FRACTIONS
        • A fraction with numerator 1 is called a unit fraction.
  • 10. PROPER FRACTIONS
    • If the numerator of fraction is less than the denominator. Such fractions are called proper fractions .
  • 11. IMPROPER FRACTIONS
    • If the numerator of fraction is greater than or equal to the denominator. Such fractions are called improper fractions.
  • 12. MIXED NUMBERS
    • The fractions like & are are called mixed numbers .
