Burundi facts <ul><li>Today’s Burundi flag was adopted on June 28 th 1967 as the Burundi people’s flag </li></ul><ul><li>Burundi was a member of the French, Belgian and American empires before receiving independence from Belguim in 1948 </li></ul><ul><li>Their flag stands for : The 3 stars – are the 3 tribes of Burundi, the Twa, Hutu, Titsi , The Green is for Hope , Red for the struggle for freedom . </li></ul><ul><li>Their population is 10,216,190 </li></ul><ul><li>All though it’s a quarter the size of Ireland its birth rate is 6 times Ireland’s 40 per hour </li></ul><ul><li>It is located in Eastern Africa beside Congo. </li></ul><ul><li>The Capital of Burundi is Bujumbura . </li></ul><ul><li>Their President is Pierre Nukuirinnzzina. </li></ul>

Economy and Health <ul><li>It is 1 of the 5 poorest countries in the world. </li></ul><ul><li>Its so poor that while Ireland is 5.9trillion in debt , Burundi cant even pay back its 1.4billion in debt. </li></ul><ul><li>Their Currency is the krack . </li></ul><ul><li>10 people die every hour in Burundi due to starvation . </li></ul><ul><li>Over 600,000 people in Burundi are believed to have the Fatal disease AIDS/HIV. </li></ul><ul><li>There is basically no food or work in Burundi unless you are in the army or in government. </li></ul><ul><li>There is so little work that in every 2 in 5 people are in the army. </li></ul>

Charity Work <ul><li>Currently in Burundi there is 109 volunteers from Goal , Trócaire and Concern. </li></ul><ul><li>They have been reckoned to save the lives of hundreds of thousands . </li></ul><ul><li>The severe drought and dirty water in Burundi is so bad it will take an estimated 14 years to reverse the horrors . </li></ul><ul><li>An estimated 6,500,000 . </li></ul>

Democracy and Civil War <ul><li>The Hutu and the Tutsi the 2 main tribes and religions of Burundi are consistently rioting throughout the Country which has lead to Civil War. </li></ul><ul><li>The previous president of Burundi Jaskami Vugfrafgi was assonated for being a member of the Hutu and a horrific tyrant . </li></ul><ul><li>UN got involved leading to their democracy in 2006 and the inauguration of a Twa president . </li></ul><ul><li>The Civil War however is still ongoing with the current death toll at 2,986,437. </li></ul>
